hey guys today i was trying to adjust my tps to read 100% at wot and it doesn't!! It only reads anywere from 80 to 90 %!!! At idle it bounces from 8 to 12%

Could this be a bad TPS??

What are the common problems with a bad TPS???

How are you testing it?

Its possible you have slack in your throttle cable.

Im testing it with my datalogger. When i use my hand to open the throttle body all the way it showes on my datalogger its bouncing all over the place from 80 to 90 % It never reaches 100%

if you have the throttle open all the way and its bouncing on the data logger sounds like the sensor is bad. It should only move if the throttle is moving. Go get a new sensor and pop it on. They are easy.

The 2G tps is a 4 pin sensor as the 1G tps is a 3 pin. The 2G senor has the throttle closed sensor in it when the 1G has it elsewhere on the throttle body

At idle the TPS will fluctuate some any where from .30-.90 volts of a 5v scale.

Why spend a bunch on a new TPS when you could grab a good one out of the junkyard...just test it before you buy it with a multimeter...or just talk to the guy there, and get it in writing that if it doesnt work properly then you can grab another one, or a refund.

While this is almost a month old it might be a good idea to ask is any of the other analog inputs are also jumping around besides the TPS.
It's a common symptom of damage to the ADC voltage reference on the ECU when all the analog inputs (TPS, IAT, ECT, battery, barometer, EGRT) are noisy.

I should also remind people that what your TPS reads at WOT isn't critical as long at it reads about 0.5v at idle on a 1G or the IPS is correctly adjusted on a 2G and the voltage changes smoothly as you open and close the throttle without spikes or dropouts. If the TPS reads correctly at idle the WOT voltage depends more on the mechanical operation of the throttle cable than on TPS adjustment.

I have that exact problem as you described with my 3000gt vr4. What is the ADC voltage reference? How do I test it? Thanks
