im have super hi knock numbers, and ive tried tuning it out with the MAFT with no results, but for some reason i keep thinking my power stearing pump being bad is causing it because when i start getting into the throttle the pump shaft is well not spinning straight and its making a noise. i know that in a fbody phantom knock can be caused by lets say your exhaust being loose and banging on the floorboard. can this happen in our cars??

My pump is gone too on my 97 GSX! But i don’t have these problems... What mine does is make VERY loud and annoying sound when the car was sitting for a while (cold) and also @ low RPM same squish metla kind of sound again but not as loud when wormed up. But then also @ WOT my car totally backfires and shakes and almost has no power but this is my welded to the housing and fried O2 sensor talking:)

It is possible. Pull the belt off and see if knock count goes way down or gone completely.

And prodigyman, it could be your problem also. He isnt talking about a knocking sound, he is speaking of knock count monitored by the ecu. You have a 2g which you cant see what the knock count is but the ecu can. When the ecu sees knock, it will pull timing which can also cause a total loss of power and missing, jerking and bucking. You too should remove you ps belt and see if it helps your situation

Well actually my problem was when i bought the car the idiot D/N secondary o2 sensor! (it had test pipe....) I JUST plugged it in... AND OHH MY GOD this thing boots now... I actually got my GSX back from 100 HP loss drama… i mean if this car has more HP with this stock T25 i be damned... i do have turbo back (with high flow cat now) and intake and other mods and PF Big T28/ Big FMIC in garage waiting to be installed but still.... I will try D/N the belt and see. How do I take it out though? It’s so tight it’s not even funny and how do I put it back on after? I mean what does P/S pump has to do with engine it self and how can it effect it?

PS: I have new P/S pumping shipped to me with engine bracket soon too so we shall see. My mechanic told me bearing are gone in mine and the angle it sitting at is bent and thts why when car is cold it makes that lound anoying sound...

Thx
