I am pretty sure my caps are fried but would like some other imput before replacing the ecu.

First off is my car will all of sudden shut off/stall. When this happens my safc which is wired to my ecu shuts off as well and i hear the ecu and fuel pump relay click. My radio doesn't shut off when this happens either so that kinda pinpoints the ecu or safc right?

My fuel trims are all maxed out rich no matter how much fuel i add on the safc (new o2 sensor)

I get crazy phantom knock only when the car is cold (after new lifters and knock sensor)

Intermitten idle issues. (changed iac but still happens) Happens more frequently in the cold weather.

Hard starting and i also noticed that my fuel pump doesn't pressurize until the second time i turn the key. Once i hear it pressurize it starts fine.

Last summer i had this stalling/shutting off happen a few times and i first thought that it was a bad ground or power connection to my safc. I soldered all the wires to the ecu wires to make sure that it had a good connection and all seem fine until last week. I know bad caps probly doesn't cause all these issues but i just want to be sure that there is enough evidence to go ahead and replace the ecu. I assume that if they are bad and have been bad since last year its probly too late to get away with changing the caps only right??

just pull the ecu out, take off the cover and inspect it for burnt spots.

Sounds easy but i work 55 hours a week and have a 2 year old i barely have time to take a dump.

That's really your only option. 55 hours a week isn't shit, that leaves you 113 hours to pull the ecu and look at the board.

well smartasss how about you subtract the 42+ hours of sleep a week then the 50+ hours of taking care of my house wife and 2 year old son that don't leave me much time now does it? Not to mention my only day off my wife works so i have my son all day its not like i can just tell him to go to a friends house so i can work on my car.

I only wanted to know if it were definatly caps so when i do get some time to myself i can just fix it instead of spending time dicking around.

Back on subject
I did pull the ecu out today today and one cap is leaking. Its not leaking very bad either. You can only see it if you push the cap over a bit.

Could there be more damage to this ecu than just the caps? I do know the car sat behind a garage for a few years without being driven or started so i am sure its seen the most extreme temps new england has to offer.
