Hi I am somewhat new here. I have been lurking in the archives trying to soak up as much info as possible about DSM's.

I have a 91 Tsi AWD with 99k on it. Its in pretty good condition. My mods so far are K&N Filter, Dejon Tool Intake, MBC w/boost gauge set @ 14 psi.

Granted I have been getting better and better every week with this car my best 1/4 time so far was a 15.008 trapping at 88.601 mph and a 2.196 60'. I know the 60' could use some help but will it really lower my ET that much? Does there seem to be something else wrong? Will removing/replacing the fog lamps help much? How about a new clutch?

I have hit fuel cut with my car a couple of times but it seems to only happen at night when it cools off. Could a new fuel filter and the re-wire mod help remedy this? Or do I need an exhaust before I can turn my boost up to that level?

Thanks in advance.

I had a 91 GS-t that was stock w/ mbc K&N dejon intake, and boost guage, it ran low 16s high 15s at 90 mph
@16 psi , i know it ran the slow ETs because of my driving (bad launches FWD), i only took it out like 4 times,
id say your right where you should be for your given mods, also keep in mind your engine is old and might not produce all the power it used to...(compression check)
you dont need a clutch unless yours is slipping and removing the foglamp in front of the smic will let more air flow threw it (smic) thus cooling better you probably wont notice a gain from it...I did the foglamp removal on my old gs-t. If your getting fuel cut or a spudder it would most likely be a small boost leak somewhere.
good luck,
Richard

Yea what chad(Midnight) meant by bone stock was that his engine's internals are stock...ya I was there when he dynoed 311fwhp and I was impressed to see he did it on 89 octane with no problems....But yea his car is dead sexy in person I can vouche for that. :thumb:

DAMN MAN!! :(

If I am hurting your feelings or giving you the wrong impression then just PM me. I have nothing to prove to anyone (look at my track ET,60',MPH). I tell it like it is, that is all.

I hold nothing against you for jumping the gun, just think before you type.

Please click on profiles before you get all mad. In my gallery is a dyno chart of the 311whp and it shows the Fuel Chart aswell. No problems from the 89oct. it is just tuned for it (Quick trip around the block with a logger ;) ). I explained it in another post somewhere about why the 89 was in there, just don't want to do a write-up in my sig for it. But for you I will give a link.

Here ya go. Sixth post Down.

Thanks everyone for the replies. OMG

I should tell you that you have to have a link to your timeslip if you have time numbers up..

109mph hour sounds awful fast for only 14 seconds..im not calling bs on you, just saying it sounds weird anyway id put up a timeslip before your times get pulled down

I didn't read all this if it has been said then i am just reaffirming.

#1 change where your gauge is plumbed. Put it on a line that does not get used like the acutator arm does. The actuator line is allowed to leak to external pressure on stock vehicles.

#2 the 255 will require an AFPR because of the flow at idle not under boost. The problem is that under idle you fuel pressure is as low as 20 psi and your usage is low. At this point the stock fpr is being overrun and you are building pressure to compensate. This means your fuel trims are all messed up.

#3 fuel cut is caused by the ammount of air the ECU sees and has nothing to do with actual fuel usage. The ECU has no way to see how much fuel is actually moving through the lines and into the engine. If you have fuel cut it is because of air flow not fuel flow.

#4 Your boost gauge is wayyyyyyy off....move it refer to #1.

I tried putting together a nice little boost leak tester today but kept running into damn problems.

I think I will just buy the tester off of MachV.

When I changed my plugs at the time of my MBC installation they were white. I dont know how that would factor into my problems but I thought I woudl just throw that into there.

All I really want to do is just get it running right before I go back to college. It is running fine now with the boost turned down.

Will the leaks fixed in my system will I achieve better MPG?

Yes your gas mileage will go up since your car won't be dumping so much fuel for the air it thinks is there but isn't.

I understand. There are alot of factors involved in this day at the track, but for now I will just clear it all up with the slip in my gallery. There are 3 of the 4 from that day. The 4th one has my best time ever (14.02, 109.27mph, and 2.46 60'). I wish I had it but I will change my profile now. :thumb:

Now, lets let it get back to the topic.

Just to refresh the topic I just got back form the track.

My best run was:

60 ft. 1.958
1/8 9.231 @ 74.394
1/4 14.548 @ 91.730

The better 60' times really helped out.
