backup lights

Hi, i had a new set of tires installed yesterday, and when they backed the car out of the stall, i noticed that the backup lights were not on. I replaced the bulbs and checked the fuse, still do nut work

I know that my 1g trans has the following, not sure about 2gs:

On top of your transmission should be a plug and connector. That is a connection for the reverse gear switch. It lets the ecu know the cars in reverse and puts the reverse lights on. It might be loose, disconnected, corrosion etc.


take a multi-meter and check is you are getting 12v to the reverse light socket.

Thanks, the plug is attached to the switch, but the switch was only hand tight. i screwed it in as tight as i could by hand, i will have to remove the turbo intake so that i can get a wrench on the switch. I purchased a rebuilt trans from Mannstran in Tallahassee last year, this is the first time i actually say my car back up and no one told me when i drove it that the backup light was working.
