The other day my axle snapped. The teeth part part at the end of the axle that goes into the differential snapped and about 1 inch of it got stuck inside of it. Is there a way to get it out? I tried using a set a needle nose's to try and get it out, but it's jammed in there.

I'm trying to get it from the outside. I'm gonna drop the rear tomorrow. If i take the cover off you think I should be able to get it out?

My rear axle did the same thing. Do yourself a favor and drop the diff and clean the insides. I will all but guarenty that there are shavings or even chunks of the old axle still floating around in the oil in the bottom of the diff and inside the spider/posi. Using a long screwdriver or punch will pop out the broken stub from the opposite side if it has a posi. This is a good oportunitey to inspect your ring and pinion and reseal the diff.

Ok, I took the other axle off and tried to stick something threw it to bang it out but I couldn't. There wasn't any openings to put anything threw to bang it out (it's an LSD rear). So I dropped the rear. I'm gonna take off the cover tomorrow and try and get the broken axle out.

When I unbolted the rear it was stuck in place so I was sitting there banging on it with a hammer and a crowbar. After 10 mins I finally got it free and it fell and hit the ground. When it hit I noticed 3 smalls pieces broke off. Here's a pic of it. They're on the top of the diff. There's a small cap to the left side (does that go onto that circular thing sticking up to the left of it?), and also 2 other pieces that broke off the right of the cap. I inspected the rear and the underbody of the car. Could'nt see where it could of came from. Anyone know?

Here's a pic.

Also, an off topic question. I've noticed in this talon and my other 1g awd. The jack points underneath the car. Towards the middle they both caved in on both sides of the jackpoints. What do you think that could be from? Is that repairable?

Here's a pic to show you what I mean.

Also, one last thing. Does anyone have any links where I can buy aftermarket axles for a 3 bolt rear? I've searched everywhere, I've only found aftermarket axles for a 4 bolt rear. I'm thinking about picking up a 4 bolt rear this weekend if they don't make any aftermarket axles for the 3 bolt.

I can't believe that a DSM's Jack points would crumble up like that! No wait, my car spends most of its time on jackstands than it does its own tires  But check out the Drive Shaft shop.. They should have some axles for you :thumb:

Yeah I don't understand. Both of the 1g talons I've owned both had the middle of the jackpoints caved in on both sides. Is there anyway to make them stronger or fix it? I wouldn't want the rest of the jackpoints to cave in while I'm under the car working on it. OMG

Anyway, time to take the cover off the rear and try and get that damn axle off. If not, looks like I'm gonna get a 4 bolt rear.

BTW, thanks Tito for the links but I was looking for aftermarket axles that can handle 400+ hp so eventually when I do start building my motor I won't have to change axles in the future. I went to driveshaft shop the other day but only found axles for a 4 bolt rear.

Got the axle out today. After I take the rear out, then the front cover off the rear diff. I realize that the whole time I could of just banged the axle out while it was still mounted underneath the car. When I first looked at it under the car I thought that it was the gears in the diff. So yeah, made a lot more work for myself. Put the rear back in the car today. Just need to connect exhaust hangers, driveshaft and axles and I can finally drive my car again tomorrow.
