I have a 90 GSX and im driving home one day and i noticed something was click when i would let off then get back on it and it would thump pretty good and then i try taking off from a light a little quick and then snap and my front tires are spinning then the swearing began and now i dont know if it is my center diff, my rear end, or my xfercase. help me out on where i should start. nothing is leaking. thanks

Transfer case recall been done? I'd start there. If the xfer case is locked the rear isn't going anywhere.

the car runs and drives fine its just front wheel drive. the clutch feels a little different but i think thats because im just not used to it. I am going to be on my way to the dealer in a minute to figure that out.

the recall has been done but he said he couldnt tell me what it was... theres the dealer for ya. so im going with it being my center diff... always the worst for a dsm. LOL

you are going to have to figure it out through process of elimination. Check your rear axles, your rear diff, t-case and then your c-diff. If your clutch feels different and feels like it is slipping a bit it may actually be your viscous coupling engaging due to lack of load on the outputshaft or a busted c-diff.

Once again (for the search-impaired):

Basic Driveline Diagnosis for Dummies

1. Verify all axles and CV joints.

2. Lift one rear wheel and try to turn it with the handbrake off and the car in gear ... shouldn't be possible ... possible = center, transfer, or rear ... if prop shaft is not turning, then it's the rear.

3. Lift one front wheel and try to turn it with car in gear ... shouldn't be possible ... possible = front, center, or transfer.

One big problem with the Information Age is how people no longer think very carefully or in an organzied manner. They look for exactly what they want and then, after failing to find it (in two minutes or less), make the claim that the information they need does not exist.

If you move to what people in my profession call the super-ordinate level and think about the issue more generally, you will often find that the information you need is available. For example, instead of looking for exactly what seems to have happened to your car, you should look for information related to the system that must be damaged.

Learn to do this and you will soon be learning how the car really works; you will be able to solve problems that no-one has faced before, too. There is a ton of research showing that people learn better when they organize the information from the super-ordinate down to the specific, as opposed to starting from the specifics and hoping that the higher-level categories will magically be created on their own.

Not that you care, probably.
