I have an issue. When i launch my awd the front tires are pulling 10 times harder than the back. It is progressively getting worse. Would this be the center diff going bad?

Where can i get the VC? Is there a write up on the install?

Pull the side cover and the VC is sitting right there on the lower shaft, you can't miss it. It's held on by one retaining clip. When you slide it off be careful not to lose the little ball that holds your rear output shaft in.

There's your write up.

Is there anyway to do away with it like making it so its locked into awd?

I have already been searching google. Everything i read just says that locking it only gives you fwd.

You are interpreting it wrong; locking it only gives you FWD if you remove your rear driveshaft, otherwise it would just be locked.

Unless you mainly use it as a drag car, and produce 500hp or more, you should probably just put another VC on. Locked center diffs suck for parking lots and sharp turns.

Ps. If you do make all that power you should probably use a spool or welded center diff anyway, which you can't do without pulling the whole trans and splitting the case.

Well the car is a daily driver. The plans are to make around the 400hp mark and still daily it but i do take it to the track once a week. I want what is going to make the car hold together. I can deal with the tires chirping if i have too.

If it is the vc that's going bad how long before its totally gone. If it will last a couple more weeks then im gonna change the whole trans due to bad 2nd gear synchros anyway.

If the VC is not gripping well, I would have to expect it would only be an issue when you lose traction. If you weren't launching it, you would never know it was slipping.

I don't think it's very common for those to get weak like yours apparently has, and I make around 400 at the crank, and prefer my stock trans to my trans with the TRE spool in the center diff.

My average 60' (on street tires) is 1.75-1.80, so I don't think that's too bad. I would like the 4 spider center diff for a little insurance, but I'm not willing to drop $450 on one.

The spool transmission will stop a car rolling 3-4 mph just by turning the wheels to pull in a driveway. Pain in the ass in my opinion. Probably wouldn't suck as much with auto, but hearing my suspension and drivetrain pop and skid was just too excruciating for me during daily driving. I've worked to hard finding Colt GT axles to just beat the piss out of them every time I u-turn or park my car.

Yea i never would have knew until last night at the track. I have launched the car maybe 30 times and it has progressively gotten worse.

My logic is thinking if you run the vce then you still have the center diff open right. So wouldn't this be ok and not cause the binding associated with welding the cd.

What i need rightnow is the cheapest and quickest fix possible.

I got embarrased last night. Pulled a 2.0 60ft smoking the front tires, fell out of boost shifting to 2nd due to bad synchros and ran a 14.7

Made me look like a fool especially when the car runs high 12's normally.

No, the VCE locks the center diff, just like welding it, but not as strong. The VC is like a clutch that makes the center diff hard to spin (like posi). The VCE just locks the components in place so the front and rear always have to turn the same speed.

That's why they use them to dyno AWD cars on a FWD dyno. Remove the rear axle shafts, and you can have full power to the front wheels. Most transmission shops don't reccomend running a VCE full time, because of the added load on the spider gears in the center diff.

So i more than likely just need to either find a used vc for the time being. I had planned to drop some cash on the car this october so it looks like a stage 3 shep trans is in the works.
Quick question though. If the trans were low in gear oil would it cause issues like this? Im starting to get the slightest little hint of gear whine and im thinking it may be low in gear oil.

I don't really know; I don't know anyone who drag races without checking basic things like fluids.

I know this may be asking a lot, but maybe you should check it...

I checked it beginning of september. Gonna check it again. No one has any synchromesh anywhere or any mt90 for that matter.

Edit. Checked again and its still full.
