I have a 1g gst and I just ordered a tranny shipped from texas. The guy verified that it was a 90 5 speed for a turbo but it has the output shaft for the awd. Will this just bolt straight in with no other modifacation or do I have to buy a special part?

its not going to drop right in, i can tell you that much. if you bolt it in, and the center diff is just spinning because there is no rear diff to lock it, it will burn the trans out trying to send power to th rear drive wheels, which arent there. and when stock differentials blow up, they can explode like grenades sending pieces of its housing and internal gears everywhere like shrapnel ruining things close to it. we blew the frint dif up in my buddys 2g, and it ruined the clutch, gears in tranny, blew a hole 6" wide in the trans itself, and hit a few other minor things like the radiator.
there is a way to make it work, but it onvolves opening up the transmission, disassembling it, and modiffying/replacing/removing the center diff. i dont now exactly how its done, you can find that info by searching on the internet, iv seen it before. iv never known anyone who tried this, because if we had the knowledge to open the tranny up, take the gears all out, and moddify it, we would have been able to rebuild the first tranny instead of replacing it. its certainly not something someone with no expirance rebuilding transmissions can do.

replacin the center diff with a locked spoil, like the above poster said sounds like it might be how its done. but like i said, that will involve disassembling the transmission, and in effect rebuilding it

You can just use a welded VC, which is fairly cheap (~$125) and fairly easy to install.

AWD gear ratios are lower than FWD, FYI.
