Alright, so I just got my car running great... but now I have a potential issue.

It will not slip into second.

I can place it in 1st and it runs fine, It takes all of the other gears, but grinds a bit going into each.

2nd will not go in at all.

The clutch pedal doesn't loosen when pressed, it starts pickin up tension about half way down and never softens up. I bled the slave and it tightened up a bit, but still no result. It felt like 2nd was trying to grab harder (Grinds) but never would.

If I drive it, clutch it, pull it out of gear, then put it back in gear and release the clutch, it WILL NOT go back into gear until I have completely stopped.

Are my Synchros shot? Bent Fork? Bad Throw Out Bearing?

Suggestions people. >.< I Don't WANT to buy a new tranny... but I suppose if I need to I will.

Oh, this is for a 90 GSX. No mods so far.. and we adjusted the shift cables, correctly, which made the situations worse. The more throw I can put into 2nd, 4th, and Rev, the better it acts. Feels like clutch drag but I have no idea.

Note : Will any 1G tranny work with a 90 or just a 90 tranny?

oh man.. I feel for ya.
A 90 transmission is hard to come by ata decent price.
salvages in and around tulsa where asking anywhere from $450-1400.
As far as I know you will need one from a 90 unless it comes with a transfer case.
the spline count is different, and the axles are different.
I believe in 93 the axle shafts got larger in diameter.

Well I know that I just swapped in 91 Axles and they worked perfect.... but I just become aware of the T-Case thing last night. >.<

I pray it's a clutch drag...

Like I said, that's what it feels like...=/

But the previous owner said that it did that before they parked it... so... I'm hoping that 2nd isn't gone.

Oh, just out of curiosity...

I have the full clutch assembly from a 91. Would that work? Could I swap that setup over?

NOTE : I was just reading something on worn pedal assembly... and it stated

" If the Clutch fork protruding from the transmission is not in line with the center of the boot (I.E. Up and down) or is pushing against the slave so as it is towards the drivers side, this is a sign of a work fork, pivot ball, or clutch assembly. Drop the trans, pull of the fork (And replace if you will) add a washer or two on the pivot ball, and this should line things up.

So... if I recall correctly, and I will confirm at lunch in 2 1/2 hours... my Release fork bottom was pivoted towards the passenger side. So perhaps it's just a bent fork? Or the pedal assembly is bad as it has a bit of play. Though the master cylinder does move the instant I push in on the pedal. It just really never feels like it's Disengaging. I'm starting to think that the trans is fine, though I don't know how long it's been doing this or if 2nd gear is gone. I hope there is enough of second left that with correct adjustment that it will lock right in.

NOTE 2 : Also.. I keep finding things. I wanted to add in that when I tossed the throw of my shifter as far as it would go so that I could put more into 2nd and 4th gear, and the more distance I gave it, the car wanted to grab second. It would try to move, catch, and I'd let off out of fear of tearing it up.

Something in my gut tells me it's horribly adjusted. Any positive backing is welcomed. Any well detailed reason why my trans if F'd is also welcome. I don't really enjoy "it's your trans" without an explination.

Yeah, the more I read, the less I believe it's the Transmission. I just didn't know what to look for before. I can still get the car into all gears. If I Turn the car off, put it in 1st, 3rd, 4th, or 5th, I can stay in that gear. If I turn the car on without moving, I can put it in those same gears, Grind a bit in 3rd, but the car will catch and pull. 2nd just grinds like crazy, but tries to engage. You can hear and feel it.

If I am moving, the only gear I can get in is 3rd with a bit of force. That's with the pedal pressed to the floor. It's adjustment. It has to be. I just put a new Slave on and it helped a tad bit, but not enough.

Again, can I swap the Pedal/Master Cyl assembly in from a 91 TSI AWD? If I find that the Fork is fine, then it HAS to be pedal assembly. If I replace that and it's not, then it has to be clutch assembly. I just know it's not the trans.
