in the idea of a MR eclipse... why not try something similar to nutshot's honduh? except... instead of putting an auto tranny in the back, play with the shifter and get it set up so you shift gears in both trannies at the same time. a guy at work told me about a tiburon that this had been done to, and he made a big show of burning out by putting the front into 1st and the rear into rev...
i realize this would be a very complex project, but i think it could be kinda fun for someone that has the know-how and the $$$ to make it work. then again, one 4g63 seems to offer enough problems

well ive been sitting her pondering. i have a tre spool locking my c-diff and im thinking about getting the starion rear end and taking out the front axles and making my DSM RWD ! i know starior read ends are BEEFY and can take well over 800hp which i probally won't get close too. Question is: How hard would swaping in the Starion 6 bolt rear end be ? anybody ever do it ?

thanks

That would be Bruce Kwartler car now.

Actually I got a video of a GSX that does a RWD burnout and it's nott a tubeframe car.

If you got Kazaa search for "RWD Talon".

Poor little output shaft is going to be hating life....... just before it breaks.

I dont think it was done unpurpose though, probably broke something

Looks like a broken center diff. It will do this when it is broken “just the right way”. The problem is that it can drive around just fine for days until spider gear pieces make their way to the front diff, where front diff ring gear will shoot it through the tranny case. Seen it a few times…

Stock 4bolt rear end should withstand a lot of power (~300-400hp) as long as you do not wheel hop. With wheel hop, you can brake it with a little as 200-250hp.

88/89 Starion rear ends are VERY strong. I do not believe that it is very practical to adapt it into a DSM. But if it helps, check out these pictures of ’88 Starion drivetrain:

I've thought about doing it to, my mom has a miata and its so fun to drive. But I don't think I could give up the AWD advanteges. My idea was to get a Vicious coupling eliminator and drop out the front diff.

when your wheels "hop" because of traction issues. Happens more often in fwd cars. My integra still has that problem when she wants to act up.

i know its been done before. you mount the engine longitudely with custom motor mounts and a custom front cross memeber, you get a chevy tranny custom driveshaft adn a chevy rear end and your all set. im just trying to see it its possible to have a RWD dsm work porperly with AWD still in use.

so you want to do something like the TRE spool, which allows you to run FWD or AWD. But you want to figure out a way to do RWD or AWD. I am interested in this also. I think RWD could be some fun...:D

actually you'll probally want to use the Ford 9" rear end and drive shaft...some people call it the Ford 9-bolt rear end too...it's actually not that tough to do if you have the patience and garage space...I've just started doing this on a 91 TSI that I have...the car didn't run because I was too lazy to buy a tranny for it, so i've decided to make it a project car...so far so good...

i'll post some pics of it here in a few days when i get the drive train in...the motor monts are being made right now by a buddy of mine that works on trucks...they should be don e sometime in the nest few weeks...i'll let you know about the progress...:dsm:

ANYTHING is possible with time and money. Wanna jet powered DSM? You can do it if you got the money. Want to send men to the moon? You can do it with enough money.

If you have a welded center diff and you pull the driver side axle(leave the equal length shaft) and pull the passenger side axle(put in a lil piece of axle to stop tranny leaking) then your rwd

dont launch on anything but bald street tires

with no or a free spinning front diff the front axles could remain.

I don't kow, its not my stupid idea, I like my street tire 1.7's.

actually u get more traction in dry wether with bald tires, more rubber is in contact with the road that way. Tread is basically just for rain.

you guys just blew this off with no thought. Have you ever seen your output shaft? imaging trying to put down your X hp with one axle. Its about the same size.
Unless you pull the motor and mount it for RWD it will NOT last.
