the time table on this build is long. School and work take alot of my time up. I would hope that a year from now she is rolling around.

As for the baffles....I have some ideas, but still thinking deeply about it.

Dont worry, when thats done i will post some pictures....

later

Sweet pan!. I finally decided that I want to do the rwd thing as well but my project will be a little different. What are your plans for the T-stat housing? I really don't like having it in the rear of the engine but so far I haven't found another option. BTW your welds look really good, what kind of welder did you use?

Ok. I have been wondering what to do with my eclipse. I have a 16g and fmic and 510 injectors... etc. Should I make my car RWD with my JDM tranny. I had my JDM tranny in the car and it shifted really really good. My brother thinks it is after market. I think it could be but probably is not. We both know that JDM trannys are double syncro. Or I could make it AWD with my orginal tranny. it has 134,000 miles. I think the JDM tranny would rip threw the gears like crazy. What do you guys think?

Post pics of this "RWD" transmission, the front axle plugs, the spool center diff, and a 4-bolt rear end. Then we will start talking about you doing RWD.

Until that time, you are going to have to deal with AWD or FWD as your options.

Are you referring to the J-Spec Galant Switchable Transmission and Transfer Case?

If so, it is only able to go between 60/40 split AWD, 4x4 (50/50 split), and FWD (by disconnecting the transfer case; if you are using the USDM transfer case. If you are using the J-Spec switchable transfer case, then you don't have to disconnect the transfer case.).

It cannot go "RWD". You would need to fab up front axle plugs, and run it in 50/50 with a switchable transfer case.

In order to run FWD, you must first lock your center diff and then disconnect the transfer case (unless you are running the switchable transfer case).

In order to run 4X4 mode, you just lock the center diff (leaving transfer case connected).

I run a swithable Galant trans. Standard is the 60/40. The trans center diff locked is 4X4 (50/50). The tcase plunger extended the tcase freewheels. You do not have to pull the tcase to go FWD.

Have a friend here in Charlotte that has plugged the front drive shaft holes, bolted the front hubs together and drifts RWD. So far the rear end has held up well for 1 yr. He even does some HPDE days with it.

Yes, it is a Japan trans. I took it apart and counted the final drive gear teeth. 58 teeth, same as a US spec transmission.

Yea, Defiant, it was early this morning. 50/50 split. With the plunger out it works like a welded center diff.

if you have it apart why would you use the jdm guts but rebuild it? would make sence

i know that but what im saying is use them but replace the other worn parts i have a single syncros with evo3 shift forks and some other parts and it shifts soomth as butter

if i remeber correctly doubble syncros require the case to be meachined to fit right for the us trans anyway the 92 case i think will fit the doubble syncros but have weaker gears i maybe wrong my buddy has doubble synrocs in his 9 sec race car soon to be 8 and thats what he told me anyways im not totally sure about the jdm stuff but i thogut the final gear ratio on the jdm trans wasnt that great
