So my input shaft is toast and I'm thinking of buying another tsi tranny. I want to get the center and front diff welded so I can take off the transfer case with the driveshaft so I'm fwd:D Before I do this I just want to make sure this isn't a waste of time. What I really want to know is are the gears too short in a awd tranny and still having an output shaft spin freely, will this still be close to the drivetrain loss that a fwd tranny has? The reason I want to do this is I'm bored with awd and I'm sure my 3 bolt rear end is going to break when I take it to the track. I willl put slicks in the front if I do this and it will be driven maybe once a week. Thanks

Yeah thats true awd are heavier but with my transfer case, driveshaft, passenger seat, rear seats+seat belts all gone i'm not that far from a 1g gs-t's full weight. But what I want is more power to the wheels, which im thinking will be at least 10-15% more and I want that top end so I can pull like a mofo on the highway:sneaky: Also I was wondering if and where I can find the cheapest dot approved slicks that fit on the stock 2g 16inch rims. Thanks

still if you have the weight of the rear end and the AWD transmission its not gonna help you much. If you take it to the drag strip its gonna slow you being a fwd. Yes, you could do it but i dont see you getting that much more if any more power just to the front wheels. IMO it would be a lost cause. And if you put slicks on that AWD tranny watch and see if you dont break something in the burnout or when it wheelhops at the launch. Trust me your gonna get real real bored of fwd when it breaks

I broke a rear axle in my talon, and have a welded diff, so instant fwd. I can tell you, unless you like rolling 60 mph burnouts, and skating side to side, it's garbage. I have drag radials on my car, and rolling into 3rd gear was dangerous.

Pleas don't weld the front diff. Just the center diff. This will allow you to be dedicated fwd if you so choose. Welding the front diff will just make you hate life as a dsmer every turn you make.

ok.. so i dont want to jack your thread op.. but i want to ask everyone. Does an awd beat a gst on the highway ? ( both have same mods and exactly the same HP/TQ) who would win because i always hear people say that gst's are good for highway "fun" and that gsx's are good for drag racing? can someone help me out on this because i am thinking of making my gst a gsx.

It would be close and the weight of the cars would be the only real difference. I made my gst awd and its worth it.....but its ALOT and ALOT and ALOT of work. seriously it took me my dad and my cousin workin on it 5-12 hours a day about a month. If you now what your doin it wouldnt be that hard.

OP if your tired of awd just make it rwd.
