If I have a 2g spyder can the AWD drive tran work out of a 1g awd or do I need to find a 2g car

You need to find a 2g car. The 1g uses a different transmission, driveshaft, fuel tank, subframe, diff, axles, and suspension setup (possibly other little things too but those are the major ones) from a 2g.

Also I noticed you have a GS spyder. I'm fairly certain that to swap that to AWD you'll also need to swap ecu's and engine wiring harness. Hopefully someone with more experience in this can confirm or refute that for me.

Not exactly. While you could technically use the transmission, transfer case and rear differential, those are only a few pieces of the puzzle. The rear subframe is very different. You'll have a substantial amount of work getting the transmission to bolt in properly. You'll still need to find a fuel tank and just about everything else. Basically, don't bother.

Spyder GS, is that the 2.4L N/T? There's been quite a few guys with the 2.0L turbo Spyder that have converted to AWD, so the how-to info is out there, but like everyone's suggesting, forget the 1g and go with a 2g donor car.

You wouldn't need a different ecu or wiring harness, that is just if you were going turbo and you wouldn't need the harness, just the ecu. There is no wiring in the awd system.

The trans and rear end wouldn't work without a ton of fabrication. The transmission on a 2g has the front and rear mounts bolted to it, on a 1g they are bolted to the engine. The 1g trans doesn't have the bolt holes for the mounts to bolt to. The rear differential is also totally different in how it bolts up.

Thinks! My plans are to build a 4g64 with 4g63 head turbo and awd.
I know about what I need for the motor build. If anyone has good
Pics of the awd conversion that would be great

I assumed that he'd be doing the full 4g63 swap at the same time, I know there's no wiring needed for the AWD system. From what I've been reading, if you start with an NA spyder you have to modify the harness slightly (knock sensor addition, possibly some pin swapping on the ecu plugs?) or swap in a turbo harness. This has been the common theme through all the threads I've read (like this one)

I actually have a 2.4L DOHC turbo spyder..

Anyways, regarding the AWD swap, I'm actually in the middle of that right now. I got a complete AWD parts car to work with. I'm about 45% done with the project (been at it since monday of this week about 2 hours per day).
Its really not all that difficult at all, just a lot of work. The hardest thing in my opinion is dealing with the rusty bolts and what not on the parts car.

If you have specific questions on the AWD swap, or even the DOHC swap, feel free to let me know.
Speaking of that, I have an extra DOHC head sitting here as well if you want it.

regarding the DOHC swap.. do the ECU swap first (ECU, Injectors, resistor pack, throttle body)
Its not necessary since you can do the DOHC swap on its own... but its just my personal recomendation.
Lemme know if you need any parts for any of the swaps... would LOVE to get these extra parts out of my garage
