So, I bought a 96 Spyder GST and want to do an AWD swap. I am looking for advice on which pieces to put on. I have a salvage yard in Philly and was looking for a parts car only to find out that the crash books list 95-96 as similar parts for the 96 Spyder and 97-99 as different.

Before I buy a parts car I wanted to know what year AWD Talon/Eclispe to buy. I did buy a 95 Talon TSI from a member of this forum but the trans was cracked and 2 axles were missing. So now I am back to square one and want to make sure I do it right.

I do plan on dropping in a 6 bolt, but my main questions right now are:

1. Which would be the best AWD trans and transfer case? Would a 97-99 be better?
2. Which rear diff should I hang? Again, it lists 97-99 as different. I assume I should use a locking one.

Thanks again to all for any help..

Val :D

i was going to do this to my gst! i had the parts car and all! its not as easy as bolting a rear axle up. you have to weld on the supports for the drive shaft, rear and exhaust. you will need all the drivetrain parts as well as the fuel tank and pumps! also im not sure about the spyder trunk floor but i know the gst is different. im not saying it can't be done cause i know it can i have seen one! but you deffinately got you work cut out for you! as far as i know i believe all the 2g drivetrains should be the same with the exception of the abs

Thanks bro. I read the write up on the board and am confident I can do it.....just not sure what parts to grab......

Thanks,

Val

tpr103 - Sorry bro. I meant should a get a 96-97 or 98-99 doner car....I have a choice....

Any other advice?

They should be identical parts, I would go with the newer donor car or the car with the least amount of miles on it. No reason to do all that work just to swap in a rear end that's got 150,000 miles on it. Good luck with the swap and let us know how it goes.

they should be all the same! the 95-96 i believe had the e-prom ecu which is good if you ever want to go with a dsm link! good luck with you project and keep us posted! take plent of pics to show us and so you know where shit goes it can be overwelming

FINALLY GOT ALL THE PARTS.....man, took awhile.

I tried to look everywhere for a trans and had to buy another parts car.

Ok, now All I need to do is drop in the trans and TX case. Putting the rear suspension is not to bad but takes time.

Regarding SBR, does anyone know a good engine builder for a 6 bolt 2.3 stroker? I would love to buy one done becuase I am running out of time.....but $6900 is a little steep.....

Thanks all,

V
