So i went the other day, needed a awd/mt/non abs axle from Autozone. They ordered one for me, I got it, it was 1 piece and didnt fit. It was just a big long axle with 2 cups on each end, and the end going into the tranny, the cup hit the transfer case. :notgood:

So i looked online and somehow their FWD and AWD axle looked like it had the exact same part number.

Anyone have confirmation on the part number for the 2 piece awd, manual transmission, non abs axle from autozone?

The car is a 95 talon tsi with a 6 bolt

Thanks!

Yea I had problems with that as well. After ordering 3 axles and still getting the wrong part, I ended up telling the manager to order me 1 driver's side axle from every year GSX they ever made and I would pick up the one that fit. If memory serves me right, the one that fit was listed for a '94 GSX on their computer. That was the one that had the male end that went through the wheel bearing and the female end that attaches to the half shaft that bolts to the block. I'm not sure if they sell the inner part as I've only picked up the outer axle.

Hope that helps.

What boot did you use? b/c i actually only need the new boot, but the one i picked up from advance was too bulky and was rubbing the oil pan and we cant get it to stay on

FYI: From my personal experience, Napa was significantly cheaper than Autozone (about 40%).

It usually takes them 2-3 tries before they get the right axle for me as well. Measure the length of your axle, so that you can verify length before you take it home. Also, bring a set of dial calipers and measure the diameter of the splined portion before you buy it. I'd had that diameter vary per axle.

I got my boot from NAPA for that axle...my old motor mounts used to make me go through those boots like crazy, the Autozone ones were too bulky and not long enough...not to mention they weren't shaped exactly right.

If all you need is the boot, then don't even bother getting the entire axle...its a headache to order the right one. Advance Auto had a boot repair kit for that axle that you can install without even taking the axle off. I don't know how well I'd trust it in a car that had a lot of CV movement, but it might be worth it to check it out. I think they said it was like $14.

Go to oreillys. I got my axles from there and they fit like a dream and have a lifetime warranty.

Advance auto was where I bought the boot from, its huge and bulky and was hitting somehting and evnetually peeled back off the axle
