hi guys, sorry about this newbie question. i searched...so don't flame. link me if you know a thread about this already. :thumb:

i have a chance to get a really good deal on a 2g awd turbo downpipe and catback exhaust, problem is that i have a fwd. can a awd downpipe/exhaust bolt up to a fwd? i'm thinking it can't, but a friend thinks that since added parts makes for different exhaust paths...why wouldn't a car with the absence of those added parts be able to accept the different exhaust?

please help.

i'm confused. you say it won't work because of the rear drive axle...i have a fwd so i don't have a rear drive axle.

aren't all n1's 3'', and don't all 3'' exhausts for dsm's run under the lca? the rear drive axle would be above the lca, so why wouldn't the exhaust work on a fwd?

Take a look at a FWD exhaust and a AWD exhaust on one of the vender sites and youll see why it doesnt work. The bends are different and im 99% sure the dp will not work either.

The bends should be mostly similar. On mine, the AWD version, it comes down from the o2 housing, goes straight back until it needs to dip and curve under the rear differential and under the passenger side rear axle.

Since these are absent on the FWD models, I'd assume it would work. They dip under, not over, or beside.

You have to remember that with the FWD cars the rear axle is straight across, or at least it is on the 1g. When you look underneath the AWDs, the rear axles go towards the wheel at a downward angle due to the rear pumpkin ball being mounted higher than where the axle enters the wheel hub. This is why they route the exhaust under the rear axle. On the FWD, the axle is straight across and is actually lower in the center than the AWDs, this is the reason it is routed over the axle on the FWD.

ok, so we have a bunch of conflicting views. who's right?

if the axle goes straight across, it wouldn't matter since the awd exhaust goes under. right? can anybody give me a definete answer before i spend a bunch of money only to have to sell it again? maybe a mod or wiseguy or someone who knows for sure?

thanks for all your help guys, i'm really starting to like this forum. its much faster than any other board i'm on, and the answer just keep flowing in with a lot of facts. excellent site for schooling newbies like myself :)

trust me on this i know for a fact the the awd catback will not work on a fwd, the awd catback goes under the drive axle, and the fwd loopes above the drive axle, thus placing the hangers in different place, and mounting it would be nearly impossible, not sure about the downpipe, it might work, but i wouldnt take my word for it, but the catback i am possitive about!

i did another search and came up with a lot more threads this time for some reason...different wording possibly. anyways, i guess it won't work...which is a bummer. oh well, thanks for all your help though.
