automatic transmission trouble

Last night I was driving after about two hours my transmission completely quit working,I was doing roughly 70mph. I coated to a stop and still nothin except reverse from the transmission.
I shut off the engine, and restarted and when I put it into gear it worked until it shifts into second gear then nothing again.. I checked the fluid level which was fine, and after I start the engine I have first gear and reverse... the second it shifts to second gear I loose all forward gears but reverse works.. I haven't checked for codes yet but I was curious if there is any good ideas on weitherI should just find a new transmission or dig further, and what I should look for..

Replace transmission fluid, Check for codes. That would be my first thing to do instead of calling it a loss already. Also, identify exactly what you were doing when it happened. If you were flooring it, and then it quit. If you downshifted then it happened etc.

I was just cruising along, not deep in the accelerator... today looked into
It further.... upon resrarting I have what I believe to be first gear. .. if I put the gear selector
Into first gear it works just fine, the second I shit to second gear its done, it will not move down
Today i tried to pull codes and the scanner would not communiccate any of the modules I may have grabbed the wrong adapter....

I knew someone who experienced the infamous Limp mode, I don't remember where he ended up, you probably already have this information but here's a link that might help you with the TCU and codes.

scan it for codes but from my experience it sounds like you have an internal problem . you can drop the pan to see if there is any metal in there . sometimes you can have a gear snap clean through and not see anything in the pan.

I found the fix, the codes stored in the computer were 36,52, and 54..
There is a Tsb 26-96-006 I think on identifix.. it says to replace the underdrive/overdrive
accumulator piston inside the transmission with a updated version..
When I opened up the tranny and inspected this piston I found that the update has already
been done.. but there are 4 accumulators in this tranny. I found that the
2/4 accumulator piston on the valve body itself had a hole cracked in the top
of it... piston replaced and problem solved. the updated piston and Teflon
rings cost about $28 ....
