I have been doing some autocross recently and I am now looking for some cheap yet good wheels to use with race tires on my 91 Talon TSi. Is it better to go smaller dia. or keep it stock size. I have tires in mind but I was hoping someone would know where and what kind of wheels i should be looking for. The car runs in the STREET MOD class so pretty much anything involving wheels and tires will be legal. Thanks in advance, Dan.

The standard, basic set-up is 245/45/16 Victoracers on 16x8.5" +37 Kosei K1s. Expect to pay about $1200 for everything. The Tire Rack has these.

If you are going to jump straight to Hoosiers, either get a wheel with a lower offset (around +32) or get the spacers from Mach V, since Hoosiers are wider at the tread than Kumhos.

If you are skipping all the usual steps and leaping straight to the big time, then it's 285/30/18 V710s on 18x10s or 18x10.5s with an offset down around 12 to 15. That will run you about $3000 if you're lucky.

ps. Sean Caron (who is sponsored by 'Tuners) is two for two winning trophies in SM at National Tours on 245 Hoosiers and all stock diffs ... the best money spent is on seat time and drivers' schools, not the car.

Thats what I was looking for, I do not want to spend a whole lot of money right now but i cant keep tearing up my street tires. I appreciate all the info, thanks for the reply. Maybe it will help me shave a few seconds off my times. Thanks for the space, Dan.

how about some 3rd gen rx7 rims? i payed 200 for mine shipped on ebay. you probably wont find another deal like that but you can look. they also only weigh 14-15lb OMG. you can also fit a 245 on the wheel since its a 16x8.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that there are other ways to get a 16x8 or 16x8.5 wheel. Kosei K1s are just the easiest and cost about $600 for a set. Just keep an eye on the offset and the weight. The wheels off a 3000GT, for example, weigh a ton and require spacers, so these are not popular. In contrast, I've heard of people using the Mazda wheels many times.

those are a nice change to the stock wheels, unfortunately my car has began to stall when i push in the clutch and is making rubbing-like noises on the belt side :| so i guess I'm going to have to check that out. Not looking forward to it as i have searched on here and saw the results of what it could be. and i think we all know what that is, but i will not jump to conclusions just yet.
