I just recently picked up a 97 GS-T with an auto trans. I just started having a bit of a problem today. When I put the car from "park" into "drive" or from "neutral" into "drive" the car bucks or jumps when engaging into drive. It's basicly anytime I'm in park, neutral or reverse and I'm putting it into drive it just jumps or bucks when engaging. Driving the car is fine and it shifts smooth just wondering what this might be? It's almost like its slamming into drive.

I'm going to change the transmission fluid (with B&M) and filter hopefully some time this week depending on the weather but does anyone have any suggestions of what else I could do? I was also planning on getting a shift kit and an end clutch kit but I wanted to fix this problem first.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

hey thanks a lot man....did this help get rid of the problem for you? anyone else have any suggestions too? the more info i can get the better it would be...thanks everyone

This could be a problem with your motor/transmisssion mounts.

Open the hood, firmly apply the e-brake, and put your foot on the brake pedal. Shift the trans from neutral to reverse, and back to drive. (Don't apply any throttle)

The motor should move around some, but if it hops around crazy like, you might have a bad mount or two. A close visual inspection of the mount, (engine off) will tell the tale.

If you have someone to help, have them do the inside the car dance, while you watch the mounts themselves. (Please don't stand in front of the car, as it could move suddenly.)

Good luck, and let us know if that's your issue.

Yeah engine mounts is a possibility too. I had 3 bad mounts and had them all replaced. Lot less vibrations now. One supports the engine right by the tranny so it could effect the performance.

Also, check what you are idling at. If you are idling too high (>1,300) you'll get that jerk when shifting out from park.
