So I just picked a up a 97 TSi Awd a few days ago, it was an auto to manual swap. The guy left a cable connected, I think it's the safety switch for starting in Park. It's connected under the dash, but the other end is just chillin outside the center console.

and now while I was installing my fmic, I managed to get my key into the ingnition and start/stop/acc yada yada, just cant get the key out.

ANd before this, I wasn't able to get it in gear until i played with the linkage about the tranny itself, it was hitting my lower intercooler piping.

I had the exact same fmic setup on my gsx and there were no clearance issues.

Any thoughts?

I don't think that the intercooler has anything to do with it, there is a piece in the key lock assembly that you have to remove for the key to not lock anymore. That cable that you are refering to goes from the auto shifter to the lock cylinder. It it what keeps the key from being able to be taken out when the car is in gear. There is a little plastic cover on the bottom of the column lock cylinder with a screw holding it in place. Just remove the pieces from inside the there and it should be good.

So we're saying that just taking it off will solve this?

I was just mentioning the not going into gear thing because it wouldn't go into gear until I messed with the linkage which was contacting my piping.

I see. Yeah, they probably didn't remove the piece under the cover that locks the key.

So just remove the pieces beneath the plastic part of the cylinder and I'm g2g?

Finagled the cable and managed to get my key out earlier, so when I get off work, I'm going to try and remove the damned thing :thumb:
