I am doing the timing on my 90 gsx and I have an OEM auto tensioner with like 5000 miles on it. I tried to compress the pin in a vise and oil came out of a little hole on the round circle part as I was compressing it. Is oil supposed to come out of the little hole when you compress in or is it shot? It has ridiculous amounts pressure but the oil coming out the hole has me worried. I ordered a new one but I was wondering if its safe to use for a few days till the new one gets in.

No it's shot and DO NOT USE IT or you will get oil all over your TB and ruin that too. Replace the auto tensioner with a new factory one (no after market or you will regret it). And when you compress it to put the holding pin in (eg. allen wrench), compress it VERY, VERY, VERY slowly (like steps of: 1/3 turn of vise handle, then wait 30 seconds for it to settle, repeat) or you will damage the seals in the new one.

Thats what I figured. I definitely have an OEM one on the way, I drove two hours to get the last one from Mitsubish dealer. Thanks for the valve saving advice.
