Auto-dimming mirror conversion for 2G DSMs
PART 1: Installing the Mirror
Ive been wanting to do this for a long time, and have finally gotten an auto-dimming mirror from a Chrysler 300M. This can be done to a 1G or 2G, however, I own a 2G Spyder, so these steps are for 2Gs and doing this to a 1G may differ in the wiring process.
Tools:
#2 cross-tip screw driver (Phillips screw driver)
Flat-tip screw driver
8mm socket and ratchet
Pliers
Patience
Step 1: Acquire auto-dim mirror
I bought my mirror from a local salvage yard for $10.00. I simply pulled it from its anchor point on the 300Ms windshield and cut the wire harness for the electronics from under the headliner. Pretty simple there.

Step 2: Factory mirror removal
Since I own a spyder, your mirror removal may be different, but should be very similar. Since for any of you who have tried to remove the factory wire connector from the mirror know how much of a PITA it can be, remove the mirror from its mount point first. Remove the cover, careful not to break it like I did. Under the cover, there are 3 cross-tip screws, remove them. Youre now free to pry the wire connector retainer clip back and remove the connector without destroying it. And now your mirror is free from the car.

Step 3: Disassembly of factory mirror
Since my factory mirror is not attached to the windshield, I had to pull it apart to use the stock attachment arm to secure the Chrysler mirror. Theres a plastic domed cover on the pivot section of the mirror arm, carefully pry it off to expose the inner parts. Theres a torx screw holding on a metal retainer. I used a flat-tip screw driver to remove the screw since I couldnt find my torx bits. Set aside the screw and retainer. Next, pry off the plastic pivot ball cap, youll need this on the new mirror. Then slide off the arm.

Step 4: Swapping parts
I choose to pry apart my new mirror to prevent breaking the glass in order to remove the Chrysler mirrors pivot arm. If you think you can pop it off without taking it apart, thats your call.

Theres an 8mm bolt in the inside casing of the Chrysler mirror that holds the pivot ball in.

I choose to remove it. Then just grab the pivot ball with your pliers and pop the arm off, and reinstall the pivot ball. Once thats done, if you pulled the mirror apart, put it back together. Now slide the DSM mount arm over the pivot ball. Then place the ball cap from the DSM mirror on the Chrysler pivot ball and insert the retainer and torx screw and tighten.

Install the plastic cover.

Step 5: Install in car
I found this part to have a slight challenge. When installed, the mirror no longer angles high enough to see out the back of the car. It instead points down to the rear seats. You can choose to modify the mount arm or the mirrors back casing so you can adjust it properly. Or you can place spacers on the rear 2 screws holding the mirror to the car. The choice is yours, Im using spacers.
