I have a friend that has gone through several 5 speed swaps that will help me do this properly, but he has AWD 2g, where as I have FWD 2g...

Questions are....

1. Will pedal assembly work from a 2g NT?
2. Will Shifter assembly work from a 2g NT?
3. What does a 2g MT rebuild generally cost? (have tranny, needs rebuild, 2nd is grinding)
4. As mentioned, 2nd grinds when shifting, what would cause this? Syncros?
5. What is the average cost of this sort of swap? Minus the tranny, what can I look to spend on axles, slave cylinder, clutch lines, pedals, shifter, starter, etc...?

I just spoke with another guy who said he got all his pedals, cylinder, etc off a 4G63 NT....

Can anyone enlighten me? Will 420a stuff work? I dont want to waste any money.

Just for clarification, I am a 2g GST Turbo, not a 1g NA... I was asking of NT parts for the pedals and such would work since it would broaden my search area.

$675 is higher than the local tranny guy who I know and trust. No dissrespect meant, so I hope you dont take it as such. I have also been informed by two different sources that the GST/GSX MT's already have a double syncro 2nd gear... I guess Ill find out if that is true when I open it up.

Also, I was corrected, it is 3rd gear that is grinding when going into gear, not 2nd, which would make sense since I am told that 2nd has double, and 3rd does not.

I thought it was a 1G NA.

Yes, the 2G comes with a factory double 2nd. Since that is already double synchroed, I double synchro either 1st or 3rd as part of the build instead. Whatever you decide. I'm sure your local tranny guy doesn't have the cool equipment we do, so it will never shift as nice as one of our rebuilds I'm sure. If you guys, however, want it to shift nice and want to double synchro a few more gears, I can machine them for you too if you are willing to ship just the gears down. If you are going to stick with the OEM gears, I can machine 3rd gear in that to fit our huge double synchro assembly:

You would be surprised on what this shop has... it is a performance transmission shop, not a standard tranny repair facility. He has 20 lifts, about 50 employees, and builds mostly big block and rear wheel drive applications. He has 3 guys there that specialize in imports and other types of small compact cars.

This guy built a transmission for my Camaro that was able to hold over 700lbs of torque and never broke on me, in roughly 100 passes.

I would have no problem getting the work done through you since you specialize in DSMs........... if you were local. I am very picky on the shops that I allow to work on my cars, and since Transmissions are the one thing I do not work on myself, would like it to be done locally.

Im sure you do great work... i just do not like the hassles of shipping.

1. Will pedal assembly work from a 2g NT?

Yea, I used 2g NT clutch and brake pedals in my tsi awd.

2. Will Shifter assembly work from a 2g NT?

Yeah, mine was from a 2g NT.

3. What does a 2g MT rebuild generally cost? (have tranny, needs rebuild, 2nd is grinding)

A shep stage 1 rebuild is just under $1000.

4. As mentioned, 2nd grinds when shifting, what would cause this? Syncros?

Yea, bad suncro.

5. What is the average cost of this sort of swap? Minus the tranny, what can I look to spend on axles, slave cylinder, clutch lines, pedals, shifter, starter, etc...?

Depends. If you have the time to look around you can do it pretty reasonable. I will say however, that i was way over my budget when i finished.

Probably due to the Shep rebuild. I am not having the transmission rebuilt through shep, I simply cannot afford it. I will have a rebuilt tranny with double syncros on 3rd, Clutch Master Clutch, and LSD inserts. No, its not a super strong tranny, however, Im still on a T25 and do not see any real engine upgrades in the near future.

I also appear to have found a 2g MT GST being parted that has not had anything taken from it, should be able to get everything I need off of the car. Things are looking up.
