So I have had this problem for awhile and haven't gotten around to trying to figure out what is wrong, but it is really bugging me.

I recently replaced the power antenna on my 96 gst, and I believe I did everything right, it seemed to be working for the first few day. However, now whenever I turn on my stereo, or put in CD I hear nothing, it comes on, it will say a track is playing, or let me scan through stations but I can't hear crap.. it just randomly seemed to go out one day.

I am new to all this so have no idea, does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried searching but haven't really found anything in particular that is similar to my problem.

Thanks!

you mean the harness for the stock amp? good call, if you are still using that. if you upgraded your deck this would not apply, if you are still using the stock deck, then yes check that.

Sounds like the factory amp took a dump on you

Assuming he has one of the cheap harnesses. The regular Harnesses. There is an expensive one that you will only find at your premium audio shops that will plug into the stock harness, and run off of the RCA's of your stereo to go to the stock amp. A+++ quality on the sound in my honest opinion vs regular setup.

I will check the stock amp again, since I still do have both the the HU and amp, I kinda messed with it once before, thinking it might have been the problem, will double check though to make sure. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

LOL i guess you havnt seen my contribution to the car audio of the 2gs :hellyeah:

yea im aware of the MITAH adapter.. its not that much more expensive and it doesnt have to be at premium audio shops. ebay has it. it comes with the proprietary din cable to rca to use aftermarket deck with stock amp..

but people dont realize you can even REVERSE this.. yes you can use the STOCK deck with AFTERMARKET AMP! :shhh: you heard that right folks, if for some reason you want to spend a lot of money on aftermarket amps and keep the stock deck it is reversible.

some auctions on ebay actually come with the stock radio harness as well, because of course peopel still need to power and wire up their new stereo.. they have a "revised" version of the harness which IIRC is just a few wires.. all but the speaker output wires since you are utilizing the stock amp for signal input and output to speakers..

a loong time ago before the revised harness they included with the MITAH adapter,, they actually gave you the full regular wiring harness, so it was like 2 for one.. which later would be helpful when people realize all new aftermarket decks put out more and cleaner power than the stock amp..

but this is only realized with a direct comparison wiring up components so the dash speakers work, if not the dash speakers are eliminated and in comparison to stock amp setup it sounds superior because you a) 2 more speakers b) better separation of mids and highs resulting in c) better and proper soundstage

but enough of the trivial stuff
