Ok idk what the crap happened to my car. Tonight I was driving and I slid off the road ### the mud was too soggy so I had to be pulled back on the road. So after that I started the car up and it would rev at under 1K rpms and waver back and forth like it wanted to die. Then I noticed my boost gauge (just stock) was at like half so I knew something was up with that. Then as I'm driving I can only rev up to 2k rpms before the car starts shaking violently! What the heck is going on!? After I popped the hood you can rev the car all the way up while in neutral but that's it.

Also when i rev it it kind of makes this hissing sound towards the back where the carburetor area is (like right behind the engine where all your plug wires connect to) and also it made a sparking noise and the radiator fans weren't working. If I'm correct they should be spinning while the car is on correct? Please can anyone tell me what's wrong!?

There isn't anything visibly wrong though, not that I can see anyways. It is dark though and I need to take a second look but from this so far can you guys help me out with what's wrong and if you have a guess to what's wrong if you could estimate cost to fix it that'd be great. Thanks

Not 100% sure but hissing could be boost leak, stock boost gauge means nothing, and fans only come on at a certain temperature, they are not on all the time, and one only comes on when the ac is on.

sounds like you maybe knock a boost pipe off maybe....

from off roading experience im gonna go with the car is shaking like crazy cause your wheels are packed with mud and are out of balance.

boost leak maybe/exhaust leak? radiator fans only kick on when the car is up to temperature, so no they wont ALWAYS be on when the car is on

Your car has a carburetor? I would check for a boost leak, maybe you knocked a pipe loose or something when you slid off the road.

i have a 1g but my car acted similarly right before the harmonic balance pulley came apart and melted my timing cover. though it didnt hiss, just shook violently, idled rough and had the boost gauge reading randomly

Do you guys think there was any damage that's gonna be devastating that's gonna cost a lot of money? Also the exhaust spits when you rev it to. and I just looked underneath again and this plastic piece is broken and hanging on the passenger side in the front. I don't think it's relevant to the problem but that's there also.

I'm a sorta noobish so I guess not if it didn't come stock. It's just on the older cars we've had around my house that i can do some wrench work on the carburetor has been located in that general area. So my bad about that.

Oh and I can only drive it up to about 45mph while I'm in fifth. Otherwise it starts shaking violently again.

*UPDATE*

Ok so now i jacked it up and checked it over underneath the car and everything looks fine. Just the plastic piece is broken but it's not doing anything and then on the exhaust there's that braided material on it and it's scratched a little but there doesn't appear to be any holes or pipes knocked off underneath. And i checked the tires and there is absolutely no mud stuck on them at all so that takes out the shaking thing due to mud. I wish it was mud though. THis seems like it's gonna cost me something to fix

Air/boost leak. Check air piping for loose clamps at the throttle body (what you call carburator - [btw nearly all cars have been fuel injected for over 20 yrs]), turbo, and intercooler (small radiator looking thing in front of RF wheel) and any other air pipes/hoses you can find. Just follow the air piping from the air cleaner to the turbo to the intercooler to the throttle body.

im putting my money on a boost leak!!! I had cheap intercooler piping connectors and kept blowing them off and my car would not let me rev, it would shake and pulse and the boost guage goes retarted when it happens too!!! check every inch of your intercooler piping and make sure everything is connected and you have no holes. Ok so I checked all my boost hoses and everything checks out. Then when I got to the intercooler I noticed it had a small hole in the bottom of it and it's bracket was broken. So the previous owner had hit something and tried to fix it themselves but failed at it. I know this because there also is a scratch right in line with the intercooler along the entire car where they had hit something. So now I need a stock intercooler core. This is where you guys can help! If anyone has a stock core for a 95 Talon TSI AWD that they don't need or knows someone that has one hit me up. I'm looking to get one for cheap. It can be used just as long as it's in decent condition. I'm gonna repair mine for now but I'd like to switch it out if anyone has one so hit me up! Thanks.

I ran my car into a ditch before to avoid t-boning some dumb woman and bent my OEM intercooler and cracked it. The bumper and everything else looked fine suprisingly

Yeah that's basically what happened to me. The road just gave away and I slid down off the bank. Everything was fine bumper and what not, jsut the intercooler got cracked

Ok so I checked all my boost hoses and everything checks out.

Which kind of checking did you do? There are two kinds..

1.) I looked at all the pipes and everything is still in one piece

2.) I ran a boost leak test using a BLT and spayed down every pipe and hose to inspect for leaks/bubbles.

If you haven't tried the second one yet, I would try that. It wouldn't hurt to have your wheels rebalanced either, especially if you were using sticky weights.

Alright. After taking everything apart and repairing and putting it all back together my car is running again. Everything works fine except now you can hear the stock BOV a lot more... idk how but yeah. I still need to do an official BLT on the car and check that and I'm gonna get the wheels balanced rotated and aligned. All that good stuff done on it soon. As of now it's all in good running shape though. Oh one weird thing that happened tonight while i was driving was when I was in fifth the clutch randomly pulled it self in and the car's RPMs went really high of course because I was still on the gas but yeah. It just went in on it's own for a brief period then everything was fine. I don't know what that was but yeah it was weird. Thanks again for all your guy's help. It was awesome!

you are hearing the bov more cause it is able to do its job better. when you have a boost leak your bov doesnt need to do much to get rid of pressure at shifts and such but when your system is holding pressure like it should the only place to get rid of the pressure is at the bov so you will hear more air coming out of it than you did before. still do a pressurized blt and make sure you have all leaks taken care of.
