Atmospheric Dump?!

Got a question about having an atmosperhic dump... I have a RS49T internally gated and i was wondering if it is really worth it to get a dump tube? what are the pros and cons of having one besides the very loud noise.. thanks

The reason people switch to external gate is primarily to get rid of boost creep issues. If your car holds whatever boost you set it at, I'd say keep the internal gate. I've heard many cars doing the external dump and its sweet to hear a few times, but if I heard that every time I boosted I would go crazy.

I would only get the external dump if your having issues with boost creep and you've exhausted your other options to stop creeping(porting, larger flapper, etc..). If your not having an issue then I would leave it alone. I have mine dumped and I can't wait to change it back. Its loud as hell and I find myself driving like a grandma, trying to keep the gate from opening. It does scare the piss out of people next to me, when their windows are down, but the "coolness" of that gets old real quick.

yeah i hear ya there, if i ever upgrade and get boost creep, then i would go with the dump, chances are i'm not going to get a very big turbo though... with a larger turbo comes more money, so i think i could settle for a 14b.. and through my T25 in the garbage haha.. so i dont think i will ever need an atmospheric dump O2 housing... i like the sound of the turbo spooling up, i dont know if the sound of all the exhaust getting let out by the wastegate would fancy me... who knows..

yeah that makes a lot of sense.. i dont get boost creep at all, so i guess i really dont need it.. and besides the fact of the sound being pretty sweet, it would get annoying after awhile... idk.. thanks guys

A buddy of mine has it, and it's not an annoying sound at all (to me at least), it makes it sound like a small block almost. Me personally....when I first heard it the exact words out of my mouth were "I need to go touch myself now...". Just have to ask how often you go WOT.

He's not talking about going to an external setup he just means going from a recirculated o2 housing to an o2 dump.

I would def go ahead and go with a o2 dump. Most pepople will dispute it but I think it imporoved my performance if only slightly it still improved. Just for the fact that most of the o2 dumps are ported and bigger than the stock 02 housing and the fact that you have a free flowing path for your unwanted exhaust gasses is reason enough for me. I got a cheap SSAUTOCHROME one off ebay for like 100 shipped which I knew was gamble but it has def paid off. I used it on my 14b and then when I went to my 50 trim with external wastegate setup I saved myself from having to go buy another o2 housing I just cut the dump right before the bend welded on the flange for the external wastegate and then bolted it on with a dump tube so i was still venting into the atmosphere.


Fact is there are no Cons to the o2 dump except the sound which chances are if your that worried about performance you probably have a descent cat-back exhaust that's lnot the quiettest anyway so you might as well go all out and make your car sound even more bad ass.

haha u pretty much just summed it up... thanks man... im gonna go and prolly get the victory performance one in a few days.. i heard good things about them
