Ok maybe this thread is retarded but i really dont see dsm drivers shifting hard, very less powershifting, they take it really slow in between shift or at least from what i have seen. While on the other hand all the other cars (hondas acuras nissans) they slam threw gears. I am very aware that a quick shift can really help you out in overall timing, so it was just a question, i might have came to a conclusion but it may not be theoretically correct, but my calculations understand that we actually produce power, torque, thus more chances in tranny breakage, which is why dsm drivers take is slow on their transmission (my conclusion). See i purchased my car from some guy who never took care of it and i drove of thinking it was drivable but the tranny had a leak and he didnt know, so i fried my tranny, shep rebuilt it and now i have a new clutch, flywheel, tranny. but i really dont want to mess it up. So thats why i asked this question. I came from the vtec area of town and i never showed any mercy on my tranny, and it held up, are dsms different?

the honda guys shift hard because they think they're hardcore shifting liking a race car driver. just be nice to the tranny and it will be nice to you.

Well you can granny shift there is nothing wrong with that. Did you say you had a shep tranny? I think it should be fine slamming gears down the track holding down the gas at the same time..... :coy: I have 99 GSX which I launch at 6000 shift hard when I need to and she still shifts like butter.

i have to slam it into reverse if i want it to stay, otherwise it pops out, every time....

I think most of us shift like old women because we are afraid to break the tranny/transfercase. These cars are anywhere from 6 to 15 years old so they all have some miles on em and if daily driven its likely that their syncro's are near death.

Before I got my TRE tranny I shifted like a grandma because the car wouldnt shift above 2k into 1-2 and 4k for 3-4-5, now it shifts like butter at 7k in all 5. =)

I would never dream of trying to "powershift" my tranny, missing a gear on our transmissions is fatal. But since you have a Shep built one you should be pretty well off.

will it even let you powershift?
i personally never tried it, except on 5 litre mustangs, which is done all day long, and shaves off a couple tenths
but that shep tranny is good for 1500hp, i thought he guaranteed it for, so ibet you, cant break that thing if you tried

I have a 98 GSX, with almost 85000 on the odometer. So far, the tranny is good. Now, when I have to race, I can drop the clutch at almost 6000, and she just purrs all day long. Like the other dude said, you baby your cluth, she'll baby you back. Just don't grind the hell out of it, It will run for as long as you want. And amazingly, I didn't have to change the clutch till after I bolted on the new turbo and turned up the boost. Mitsu built some good trannies!
