well your guides have nothing to do with ticking and they are not a cheap job because you need to pull your head off and bring it to a machien shop. Unless you have issues with them or are doing a full rebuild its not really worth doing.

The reason i'm replacing mine is because i get a bit of blue smoke on start up and when i shift and my injector duty cycle hits 160% (car is stock at 10 psi) and i hit fuel cut. with no boost leaks except for a massive one that pisses into the valve cover when i test from the tb. And yes my leakdown and pcv valve are fine.

Today, my car started blowing out blue smoke also. It blows out blue smoke when car starts to accelerate during a stop light. I am going to check to see if its the turbo and hopefully its just the turbo going bad and not the motor. I last checked my compression a month ago and it hits 170 across and when I did a boost leak on my car, it leaks into my valve cover from the tb also. But dam, I will probably not do the guides then.

check your pcv valve and do a leakdown test. if those check out ok it could be the valve seals and guides

pcv is all good, no leaks but somehow when my oil gets kinda old, (say 3000 miles) the pressure builds up in the crank case. But after oil change, it goes back to almost normal. I hope its the turbo blowing the blue smoke, I would hate to spend $$$$ amount of money on a rebuilt head.

I was thinking that if my motor does go, I might just spend the money on one of race long block motor selling here on dsmtuner.com.
