RICEWING.COM

Are we actually trying to rationalize the functionality of rice wings. Ever see how they are bolted down? at 130 they would rip the f@ck off:rolleyes:

huge wings on cars that dont have much power are rice but personally i like the apr drag wings, they have pretty much the same functional abilites as the whale tale on the 1gs

finaly some real argument... i dont rember the last time a wing thread went into fluid dynamics and what not...

first you must say "do i drag or road race"

cause each are compleatly different, and i as a road race fan, really only know about wings for that. Mavisky really laid it down in terms of knowledge. It is true that many of the wings out there are pretty lame, and designed for looks over performance, and that makes them rice, cause they are something blatently made for performance, but changed to be flashy...

if we look at f1 cars, they are purly performance, yet i think most people agree that they look amazing. sure the paint job is for looks and what not, but im pretty sure not a single mechanical think is added for the look of it. Yet it is a race car, and at top speed the downforce is such that it could drive on the roof of a tunnel.

I am eventualy going to get a carbon fiber wing from rotora, that is wind tunel tested
and should do more good then not.

as for whoever mentioned "Konards" which are really canards. im gonna get some too.

95% of all people will say a wing is rice, and 95% of all people who get them, are for looks, the 5% will get them for the function and only they will understand thier kind.... its funny, a wing tread is almost weakly

:dsm: All this rice sh!t is complete bullsh!t. :thumb:

I doubt that 95% of all wings are rice and I could care less if someperson I don't even know says they think it is rice because they don't like it then I won't ever get one ever again. That is plain stupid and being controlled by sterotypes and society.

If I get enjoyment out of a wing because I think it looks cool than dammit I am going to get it and enjoy it like it was intended. So what if you are not a hard core race fanatic and you don't like it. Tough!!

Until they make a law punishable by death or incarceration that it is ILLEGAL in all states to have a wing on a car that isn't a strict racer/performance oriented car than I will get one as much as I want and I will be glad that I live in the United States of America and I am FREE to EXPRESS my pursuit for happiness. If wings make my happy I will buy them and I don't care if they are not 100% functional and some people get made because I have it.

If you care that much about other people choices and preferences.....you are either too opinionated, don't have style, can't change, or just plain ol' need to get a fricking life and worry about something else. I don't have time to worry about if eveybody does things this one way which is (in your opinion) the only one right way.

If you get a wing for style you are not breaking any government or civil laws known to man. You are however going against some peoples opinion of taste or particular style and that is it. Bottomline.

GET A FRICKING WING IF YOU LIKE IT:laugh: BE a punk a$$ wimp and don't get one if you listen to what people say. If you like it pimp it if you don't then just don't get it. Going beyond that as an arguement is ridiculous.:dsm:

check out the formula sae ocmpetition sometime. you'll see some of the biggest wing/vehicle size ratio out there and most thsoe cars can't even clear 60mph, at least not on the small tracks they setup for them. so you're telling me that those wings are useless because they aren't going 130mph (i think that's the magical number you used)??? i dunno about the rest of the guys, but i'm gonna believe the guys belonging to an engineering society before i believe some random guy on dsmtuners who has a nice car (and you do by the way).

I agree with the fact that wings can provide downforce in any case, but it does take high speeds for it to be noticeable. I you think wings are cool, go get one! Otherwise, don't!

By the way, I am studying in mechanical engineering at École Polytechnique of Montreal, and I am now in my second year of studies. I was part of the school' Formula SAE team that finished 19th last year in Pontiac and believe me, there aren't too many teams that make use of wings. If you refer to teams like Texas-Arlington, they have this huge mother-shut yo' mouth wing made of carbon on their cool blue car. But otherwise than that, most of the other teams, like Polytechnique, McGill, Waterloo, North Carolina, even the winner Cornell university didn't use wings. Been there, seen it.

L8ER! :dsm:

I think that the aluminum ones(and the CF ones if people could afford them) are very played out, but not all are rice, cars that can actually go fast enough to benifit from them are perfectly welcome to them, but on my friend's honda that has trouble getting to 100 its just rice, personally I dont think high rise spoilers are that bad but I would get one that isnt made of aluminum if I had to get one, but I never will drive my NT fast enough to require one

How are carbon fiber wings not helping performance? Wings do serve a purpose, and a carbon fiber one does the job with little weight addition. Nooch.

well i just want to throw my 5 cents in here, i drive upwards of 100 mph alot down in south Texas where there's no cops, and it DOES get unstable around 130ish. anybody who says it doesnt is either full of shit, or their cars have been modded to add more downforce. i want to eventually get a wing for the rear, i'm trying to find one thats strong and doesnt just bolt into the trunk but have some kind of sandwich platform to spread out the pressure on the truck lid more evenly rather then just bolting it in. I would never get some lame ass APC wing, i want something that actually works, and is adjustable. So yeah, i drive my car at upwards of 100 mph probably about 25-50% of the time and i think a wing would be functional for me. :thumb: :D hopefully lowerin the car 2 inches will also help with the aerodynamics, i think part of the problem is the air going underneath the car and lifting it up.

I'm sick of hearing this. "Altezzas are played out" "wings are played out" "everyone has them" Who cares? So since a lot of people run a 16g turbo is it "played out"? Who cares what everyone runs on there car, if it's what you want get it and don't let people change your mind or get you down if they talk smack.

Now for me, I don't like the look of alezzas unless it's on a silver car, or black if they are cf. Aluminum wings are alright, but since I have a spyder, I think it'd look like crap so I won't be running one.

Bottom line, it's your car, your money, do as you wish and don't let anyone tell you to do differant (unless it's your wife/husband who says no :p )

I think wings add to the look of the car, but a lot of the time wings dont look right. I get wierd looks all the time because of my wing but I dont give a shit. My wing is rice but I like it. Who cares what other people think. If you think a wing would look good on your car, put one on, but thats just my opinion.

yeah i agree whish wht the last guy said, i mean, im all about do whatever you want... but i think it is silly when someone askes about wings like "are they rice" that is dumb, i belive all this rice shiot lies in the intneded use... its silly to quible over all this, it just peoples opinion, in japan wings are very popular, cause the whole street racing sceene is based on roadracing, americans wouldnet drop 1200 clams on a wing, but in japan its a crutial part of the set up, and at high speed, you will benefit from it.

Personly i would say, get what you want to do what you want, but understand the implications. if you think a wing LOOKS good, and you want looks, get one, if you want high speed stability, get one, but make sure it is a working on... peace

I think when it comes to wings, anything that isn't stock, is rice... Our cars dont have enough balls where a wing is essential... If ure car came with no wing, leave it (personally), if it came with an NT wing, leave it, and ure super lucky if it came with a turbo wing... Just leave it dude, NO WING! :thumb:

Exactly.

YOU do what YOU want to do to YOUR car.

F*** everyone else.
