Are air flow meters universal?

I was told my air flow meter was bad.. Is this a common issue? Anyone happen to know if ( i have a 2nd gen ) I would NEED a second gen ? or will the 1st gen work with it? And if I did need a 2nd gen, would it matter if it was 97+, or AWD? I have a 95 GST FWD -- thanks in advance !

(btw, im not too familiar with where it is, is the airflow meter located right behind the intake, where the instake filter actually inserts?

You can use the mas from any 2g turbo car, a 1g sensor isn't easily swapped in and would be a huge downgrade.

Yes, the mas is the large black thing with wires going to it right after the air filter, and before the intake pipe/turbo.

Look for a 95-99 MAS. It is possible to make a 1G one work but it is not worth it being a downgrade.
