are 98 gsx's control arms bent or straight?

Have you had the recall done? And you should not have 3 threads about the same problem.
 
There is one lateral (st8) arm and one curved arm.

If it's the straight (laterial) one, Call the dealership and check if the recall has been done. If it hasn't it will be free.
I called the dealership when mine started squeaking and had a torn boot. I gave them my VIN number over the phone and they checked for me.

They said the recall service has been done to my car.

I told them, "...well it ripped again." They told me, "Sorry, you have to pay for the next one.:tease:"

It didn't make much sense to me because why would they refuse to service a part that failed once more?

I don't know; maybe I am wrong. :confused:
