Are 1G and 2G knock sensors compatible?

Washington,
My sensor has gone to shit. Gooey stuff oozing out of it, 43 full counts in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, no timing advance. I was reading RRE's page and they wrote that the 1G sensor is crap to begin with and the 2G is a better unit (This was an article about installing an AEM EMS in a 1G, btw). Are they a direct swap with no reworking the electrical connections?

No they are not a direct swap even it the connectors turned out to be the same.
You have to use the knock sensor that matches the ECU. So a 1G knock sensor for a 1G ECU, 2G sensor for a 2G ECU and for the AEM.
