I ahve a 91 talon awd, and i can get a 2g transmission case and transfercase from a friend. my bellhousing on my transmission case is cracked, my transfer case is fine tho. Are they interchangeable? I know about the deal with the transfer case and splines and such, but could i use the 2g bell housing? how about its center diff?

thanks guys

Hey it looks like i found the right thread. Im looking for some info, here is what i have. 2 days ago i bought a 95 Eagle Talon Tsi awd for $1000. only major thing wrong with it, broken timeing belt. Ive pulled the head off, 16 bent valves and four dinged up pistons. i think im going to go ahead and fix the head and find a 1g block and bore it out to .20 and put in some forged pistons and all that good stuff. Any insite with that would be nice.

Now for the transmission part of it, it came with an automatic. I personaly feel a sports car with an automatic is sacriligious (not that i am overly religious or anything) :) . So i have done a whole hell of a lot of research and found the manual will fit right in as will the new brake\clutch assembly and even the shifter. Any insite into that would also be great.

Now i would also like to know what would be involved in putting in a 1g trans in this 2g car. Is it advisable or not?

I have a brand new 2g tranny (99 eclipse) going into my 1990 tsi. I swapped some of the internals since I don't have the matching T-cases. The mounts can be swapped. The tranny case is the same, the car arounded changed.
It's an upgrade....

How hard is it to actualy swap a 2G tranny into a 1G awd? If I had both the 2g tranny and transfercase.

I ask because I am going to soon need to swap, rebuild or something my current tranny. Which is the worst of all made being the 90 model.

I'm looking for a cheap but effective solution to my tranny problems, and if it's not to much trouble to swap them, hell i'll go for it.

I am in the process of putting a 23 spline from a 92 into my car (90 22 spline) hopefully it goes alright. I think the biggest thing is the shifter, linkages and brackets changed because I have to swap out all my stuff for the newer model stuff. Thats if you get the transfer case with it.

It wouldn't be to bad but being that I was so excited to get a new trans I didn't count the splines when I bought it and found out it was a 23 spline while putting it in. So now I have to get all that stuff. It really just all equals down time.
