I picked up my Talon a bit ago and it already had a few goodies on it.

Most of it was malfunctioning, just ####ed up, or horribly installed... so I've managed to fix/re-do/replace almost everything now... all that's left to play with is this S-AFC 2

Does ANYBODY know anything about these? As of right now, I'm running super rich and need to rectify that ASAP.

I've searched and search for a manual for this, but I can't find anything that isn't in Japanese! ARGH.

Does anybody have a manual for this? And if so, what are the chances you could snap a few pics of some of the pages?

Otherwise, I guess if somebody has enough experience with it, maybe just explain to me a couple things, basic functions, etc. I'm just a little reluctant to #### around with it because I know how badly it could potentially #### something up.

I suppose worst case scenario, I could get somebody to translate the Japanese manual... :p

But yeah.... l'il help?

I'm pretty sure those are the same manuals I kept finding. It just tells me it's missing a font... I need to install japanese language support... then the whole document is just a bunch of dots for text.

Are you reading it in English on your side? :S

As for the other links, those definitely seem to be good reads. Thanks. :)

It should also be added that I DID install the latest version of "japanese language support", and it didn't help... it also told me about some "DFP-Gothic-" font, which seems to be a Chinese character font... which I found a download for but it's $40?? No thanks.

If you have the cash, I highly recomend ECMLink aka DSM link lite. I run the full version but the lite has 99% of the stuff thats usable to non nitrous, non 8 injector running guys.

If your not able to throw down for that. I will see what I can do to dig up my notes from back in the day when I had the evil box.

I guess I have to ask some silly questions like, When did it start acting up? was it around the time you modded or did work on the car?

At the moment, I have little-to-no cash. I got laid off a bit ago, and am without much of any expendable income for a bit. ####ing economy... regardless, I am doing as much as I can with what I have for the moment.

How much is ECM link, and is it just an OBD plug to a computer or what? The car came with a blue OBD-to-USB cable, and I have yet to figure out what that was ever for...

If you find ANYTHING on the "evil box", it would be much appreciated. :) But I DO, however, have to question the name "evil box" haha.

The boost controller that was on the car did essentially nothing. As did the air/fuel gauge, which I later found to be only a narrow-band. Once I put in my own wide-band Air/Fuel, and my own boost controller, everything seemed under control and good, just on the rich side. As I started upping the boost to around 18psi, it would even sputter under full boost. The A/F gauge, only reads as low as 10.0, so I just know it's a lot richer than that. Not good, but still better than being super lean, right?

Ugh! WTF! Haha... what/where did you install? I tried a few things, and I'm still just getting dots everywhere around all the pictures.

sorry about the job dude,

I call the SAFC the evil box because it killed someones engine that put injectors on that were to big. Since it edits the air flow values the ecu see's it put the engine on a timing map that was WAY to aggressive and blew up his engine LOL.. Can't say he wasn't warned LOL.. then he is confused when you try to tell him why his car is detonating with bigger injectors LOL

DSMlink is a chip and software that allows you direct access via laptop to the ecu's hard code. So you can change timing, fuel, adjust things to dial in random injectors you find that are larger than stock. Its pretty bad ass.. its $345 for the lite version (lacks nitrous control and i think control for 8 injectors), but it will likely be the last tuning devise you will need. if you have wide band you can log that in it and review all of your timing data, knock retard, air flow after each run. Its sick...

the manual, try clicking a couple pages down. the first page or two had dots.. but then It was in english farther down. if that doesn't work I would suggest going to adobe's web site and updating your software to current (naturally you uninstall the version you have now to make sure it works right) That is all assuming porn hasn't overwhelmed your computer and its thinking for its self now LOL.

How big were said injectors?:ohdamn:

+1, what kind of injectors were you trying to run? Many people have had great success with running the S-afc, I did as well before upgrading. If you blew a motor running a s-afc and large injectors, I would say that was user error for not doing enough research on the s-afc limitations, on how to set it up.

Well, I'd have to question if they just threw in the larger injectors before changing any settings...

Also, slightly related... how might one check if they have larger injectors already if they don't know? I'm almost positive I have an aftermarket fuel pump already, it's slightly louder than a normal one, and the fuel pressure gauge reads anywhere between 52-60 psi at any time...

I'll definitely consider the DSM or ECM link down the road though; that seems to be a regular recommendation from people.
