Sup Guys,

I have a 99 spyder GS and am considering getting a muffler for it. Upon doing my search on this forum I hear the APEXi N1 mufflers get pretty good reviews and have a nice deep bassy sound which is what im looking for. I need a couple things,

First of which, is this APEXi N1 muffler official?

Secondly, Can I just weld the muffler on the factory piping?

Lastly, Anyone running this muffler on a GS Spyder?

Thanks

that is NOT an "authentic" APEXI N1 muffler. Its an N1 style muffler. To answer your second question you can get a muffler welded on your stock piping but Please dont do that, it will look stupid and sound like crap. At least get a catback exhaust from ebay, you can get an N1 style catback exhaust for cheap on ebay and it will look and sound better than what you are trying to do. Of course, if you have the money, you can get the authentic APEXI N1 from many internet suppliers, including ebay. It will look and sound better than a cheaper system, and last longer.........either way, an exhaust on a GS wont generate much HP, in case you didnt know....

You will need a reducer piece for the muffler to fit onto your stock exhaust, The part that connects to your exhaust is 2 1/2", your stock exhaust is smaller. It will not sound ricy if you just weld the muffler on, It is not a honda.

i had that same one on my 2g GS its a N1 "STYLE" the real deal is $150+ that one is smaller and more restirctive than the real deal, sounds worse than a coffee can and u do need a reducer. Your better off just chopping off your stock one and driving around that way, it will sound better...

Thanks for the valuable feedback guys.

Eastwood, we're on the same page. Ok so I can get a catback but how will I know it's an official APEXi N1 muffler? What are they going for? Also how much do you think it will cost to install?

BTW, Eastwood what exhaust are you running?

hey man,
A few different online companies sell the official APEXI N1 system. And I put and ebay knockoff link in there also........

It usually runs around 500 bucks, a little more or less depending on the site and special deals... The official N1 system has the APEXI logo emblazed into the actual muffler....The install is pretty easy if you have access to a lift or some way to lift the car safely. If your stock exhaust is old or a little rusty, it might be worth it to take it to a shop for the install. Its basically a few bolts at the cat and rear section of the piping by the muffler. I personally wouldnt pay more than like 50 bucks to let a shop install it. You would only be paying for labor and it wouldn't take more than one hour. An altenative to that would either be get a knock off N1 catback system from ebay for about 250$, or buy the official N1 muffler for around 150, and then get an exhaust shop to custom bend like 2.25 or 2.5" piping from you cat converter back to your muffler. Which would be anywhere from 100-200$ depending on the shop.

I'm currently running a "CHEAP" custom turbo back system cuz i was looking for the cheapest way to make horsepower. I have a mandrel bent 2.5" downpipe that connects to a 3" flex section, and then 3" piping all the way back to my straight thru N1 style muffler. The whole system cost me roughly 350 bucks (including the custom piping). Dont get me wrong, I'm not against ebay mufflers or exhaust systems, I just didnt want to see you purchase a muffler and get it welded to your stock exhaust piping.

Hope that helps a little, if you have the money, i would say get the real deal......:dsm:

Some people even run stock GS-T exhaust's on their 2GNT's.

On my old 95 Eclipse GS, I had an A'PEXi RS cat-back exhaust, high flow cat, and HP 4-1 header. It sounded nice for an N/T. No raspy sound or anything. They don't make the RS system anymore. But it had a close to OEM muffler look, it was a very clean style.

In my opinion. The best thing to do is get a nice muffler. Then take that to a muffler shop and have them make an exhaust for you. apexi's 2.5/3" pipe isn't any better than anyone elses pipe. It will be a lot more cost effective with the same results. Granted, the less bends the better....
