I wanted to know what everyone thinks of the apexi exhaust system from the full n1 down pipe to the complete catback exhaust if you have please let me know if it good very interested about gettin one for my 1g gsx.

I dont see how a custom exhaust is half-assed, but I gues if you need a name brand to feel comfortable then thats what you need.

Quality may be a little better but, if your looking for performance the custom will give you a hp or 2 better from less restrictions. Just my opinoin.

Like I said. That is just my opinion. If you have the connections and a cheap shop to do it then go for it, like I said. I appreciate the MATURE response

Can you please state specifics on how you figure custom gets you extra hp?WTF If the bolt on does not neck down at the flanges, how is it more restrictive?

The N1 is technically NOT 3" (Its more like 2.7") and has built in resonators and "bottlenecks" of sorts. If you have a "custom" exhaust then you can just tell the guy, "I want a 3" exhaust system, mandrel bent, no resonators, blah blah blah" and that is what your going to get. But, the QUALITY of the welds, fitment, ease of assembly/disassembly will ALL depend on the mechanic building the exhaust.

Kind of the luck of the draw I guess.

Im not arguing, just not appreciating my exhaust being called half-assed. If your looking for the best bang for the buck go custom. If you have the money to spend 600 go for the apexi im sure its just fine.

My experience with apexi was not all that great though. My friend bought a 3 inch dp and it was only 2.25 at teh flange and went to 2.75. Wit the custom I know im getting 3 inch all the way. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Oh and just to let you know fitment for mine was not a problem becasue they put it on for me. Just to let you know. It still was only 100. I assume most muffler shops would do that for you but not all mess with anything behind the cat. Keep that in mind also.

^Exactly what I said.

Actually, its the other way around. The brand name exhaust systems generally have mandrel bent piping, but the custom exhaust piping built by you average muffler shop is usually press bent. Therefore, those brand name exhaust systems flow better than custom built piping. mandrel bent>press bent

no problem.

Well the flow will depend on how big the bends are. I have two very small bends, otehrwise its completely straight.. Mandrel bent is also overrated. unless your looking for 600 plus hp you dont neccesarily need mandrel bent.

It's only over-rated if you have virtually no bends. A 45 degree press bend will lose you about 20% of it's inner diameter. Unless you go with a larger section of pipe for that area, you end up with more bottlenecks.

Also, a lot of shops around here (don't know about everywhere else) don't offer mandrel bent exhausts. The ones that do have to fab it up from pre-bent pieces and the cost tends to be quite a bit more than $120 or so. I paid more than that ($230) for press bent piping from my exhaust manifold to my muffler for my Grand Am, and that was a good price.

Good for you man. Not everyone's exhaust has so few bends. The RS/GS/GST crowd has two 45's, and some extra bending to worry about especially if they want it over or under the rear axle, so it does matter when it comes down to it.

To get back on track with the original discussion, I recently had to replace an Apex'i N1 on my eclipse. Had it for about a year and a half, worked great, then I scrubbed in on a speed bump, and it cracked right before the cat. Just my .02, try not to hit anything with it.

Are you sure its not 3 i measured mine when i got it and it was 3in. Now as fas as inside where you can't see i cant say anything but I know that parts of it are 3 for sure. The site says that the apex n1 on the gsx opens more towards the back or the piping. and the down pipe

161-KM01 Eclipse 1995 - 1999 GSX 80mm-85mm; 115mm Cat back
145-KM01 Eclipse 1995 - 1999 GSX 60mm-80mm Down pipe

Holly crap the gst pipes are for surely smaller than the gsx

161-KM02 Eclipse 1995 - 1999 GST 70mm-74.7mm-85mm; 115mm Cat back
145-KM02 Eclipse 1995 - 1999 GST 60mm-70mm Down pipe.

Well after this is some what shocking I didn't know that there was that much difference in between the two.

I think what Johnny is referring to is like buying a cheap knock off like cereal. It tastes the same but its in a different package. Same thing applies here. As long as the pipe is stainless on both cases they are the same. Just depends how much you can pick one up for. You guys need to chill and help this guy out instead of arguing.

I have it too. I like it. Gives a nice low sound with a slight rumble. Not too loud but still aggressive. My only complaint is the canister stands out a bit too much.

I paid $180 for the cat back and $80 for the downpipe, everything brand new. So a total of $260. :D It helps when the Apex US headquarters/warehouse is just down the street. ;)

I got the Apexi N1 cat-back for my 99 GST, it's very deep, refined and sounds crazy good, but it's not to loud:thumb:. If you are worried about rust your local auto-parts store should have some sort of anti-rust, high temp spray paint that should do the trick. The level of loudness should incress alot when I add a N1 downpipe. Again if its a DD, the anti-rust paint is a must for the N1 cat-back and the downpipe. It might smell some depending on the paint for a week or so, but it will save ya some $$$ in the long run:D. Just be sure the paint is the HIGH TEMP. ANTI - RUST type.

If you have the money for the Apexi N1 it is really worth the money. I don't pay retail for my stuff but it sounds great. I have turbo back from Apexi. I heard the N1 on the rx7 drift car they have and I was in love.LOL. It just purrs.LOL. Puurr-fectly.hahaha. Worth the money IMO. No regrets on paying for it looks good coming out the back as well. Has Apexi written right on the top of the tip.....

Yeah I had bought a Apexi N1 cat-back for my old car and I plan on buying one for my new car. I got nothing but complements on my exhaust when I had that car. I like how it comes out on and upward angle which is keep to keeping the exhaust alittle quiter because the exhaust gases are going up instead of bouncing of the ground which makes the exhaust tone not sound as good. Also you got to remember with the brand name stuff there is usally alittle R&D with there products. Where if you take it to a muffler shop you have some guy building your exhaust that it may be his first time doing and exhaust on a DSM. My buddy got a cat-back made at a local exhaust shop and the quality was not that good. They also welded the exhaust to the cat. IDK about you but I like my exhaust all bolt on, makes it much easier for removal, instead of having one long exhaust you cant take it off in parts. I would buy an ebay exhaust before I took it to an exhaust shop, IMO. Unless you know someone that does real good work and would actually flange the ends so it would be a bolt on, not a weld on.
