Anyone using Joe Gibbs Racing gear oil in their tranny?

I have found the pensoil syncromesh to work best in our tranys. That oil you are talking about will be to heavy causing the trany to shift slowly and not alow the syncros to do there job by slowing the trany down. The syncros are a break and need an oil with a friction additve alowing them to work properly.
I tryed 1 qt of shock proof heavy along with syncomesh in my shep trany and didnt like it. Shifted slow and third gear was notchy. With 100% sncromesh it shifts like a race trany should.
May guys think they need heavy oil in there tranys thinking its going to cushin the shifting but thats not the case unless your running a dog box type trany.
I would use that gibs oil in the transfer case or the rear end but thats it.

I've heard some bad things about Pennzoil since there additive package leaves waxy stuff in the tranny. I was thinking of going with a mix of Redline Shockproof, MT90, and MTL.

Not much help but a buddy of mine actually ran it through his TRE rebuild and the trans was perfect. They told him it would probably be a little notchy until it warmed up but he had no problem with it whatsoever. He had problem after problem with fluid until he found this. As far as temp ratings go and it dropping the temp, I can't attest to that as that's something I don't know about.

While it not being cheap stuff, it works great for him. Perfect when it's cold and shifts like butter at 9500. Now if I could just get him to let me drive.. :sneaky:

I am not sure I would try it. All the nascar cars etc are running a dog box type transmission. It does not mention any where it is made for a synchro trans.

Thanks
John Shepherd

I am going to call the manufacturer today and see what they have to say in regards to testing with synchronized transmissions.
