Anyone use Web 546/547 cams?

Who here uses Web cams? First off, I would like to state the I am not looking for advice on which cams to get. I got a set of Web 546/547 cams used from a friends buddy he had on his 91 TSi AWD for $155. Yes, $155.

I know about the "needing to degree" most of the Web cams and I believe these were degreed. I do know for sure that he didn't have any idle issues that were crazy and unbearable.

I am simply looking to see what you guys with the Web cams think of them. Power gains, sound, idle, comparison to other cams you have used, etc.

I was running stock cams and a stock head. Timing jumped and bent a valve. I am putting these Web cams into a new 7 bolt 1G head.

my 92 laser awd(the crashed up one in my profile pics) had a set of web cams in it when i bought it, and i ran them for about 2 years and liked them alot. was quite a few years and 2 dsms ago and i dont remember what the specs were though.

only problem i had with them was the horrid idle, but i think that was because the guy i bought the car from that installed them set the lobe center separation very tight when he was degreeing them. i never messed with them and adjusted the degreeing, because the idle didnt bother me much and at the time around 6 years ago degreeing cams was above my skill level.

they idled very lumpy and inconsistent and ate ISC motors like a starving homeless man at an all you can eat buffet, an isc would last about 2 weeks, after replacing the isc the 4th time i just unplugged it and let it idle how they wanted, half the time around 1100 and very lumpy, the other half of the time it idled high and bounced off the 1500 rpm idle limit fuel cut.

the top end power was very good, but the powerband was very narrow and there was absolutly no power below 2600 rpm, i could floor it at 1500 rpm in 3rd and it was like going 10% throttle untill 2600 when the powerband hit. but according to web cams sites section on degreeing, that can be an effect of how tight the lobe center separation is, and how much the came timing were retarded. as i said, i never messed with them while that head was on the car.

and just an fyi, you are going to need to degree the cams specifically to your engine, web cams recommends degreeing your cams any time you change your timeing belt, deck the head or the block. so unless the came came in a fully assembled longblock, the degreeing your budddy who sold you the cams did means nothing to you.

all that being said, my web cams were my second favorite cams of any dsm i have owned or driven, second only to the 288s my buddy has in his 1g. still waiting to see how the fp2 cams in my current car feel, im so so close to getting it running right, i think i just need a new tps sensor for the q45 throttle body. but i have the head with the web cams in question laying around still and am seriously planning on slapping them in my new dsm if i dont like the fp2s

I had Web cams i too bought new about 5 years ago. I installed them on my old 16g build and loved them. They were best improvement i did at that point in time. I later sold them to a friend of mine, and I totally regret letting them go... (replaced them with bc 272's, what junk) - atleast they didnt go too far, they are now pulling strong in my buddys galant vr4. Youll like the cams, dont let them go.
