Sorry I didn't know where else to post this but 'stevep' helped me on a ECU/wiring problem I was having with my 90 TSI and I needed something else. Anyone know who he is since DSMTalk is down?

Thanks

I don't remember where he is from. He does electronic work either as a hobby or as his job. That's why I needed to talk to him, I just don't know how to get a hold of him since the other site is down.

Oh geez, that was the first thing I did, except I used 'stevep' not steve. Anyway, I don't know if you remember me but I was working on a 91 TSI that wouldn't run, I jumped the power wire for all the sensors and got the car to run but it still wasn't getting a signal to fire on two cylinders. Anyway, do you care if I email you? I need some assistance. :) Email me at [email protected] if it's ok. Thanks

I'm also having a problem where I only have spark on two cylinders and code 44 (1990 TSI). Cylinders 1 and 4 get spark but cylinders 2 and 3 don't spark. The coil and transistor are new and the ecu has tested good in another vehicle. Would someone take a shot at what the problem could be or what component I should check next? Thanks in advance.

If your coil and transistor are new (and tested good) and the ECU was tested good in another car then you need to ohm the wires going from the ecu to the transistor. Check the transistor to make sure it's getting a signal to fire each coil (ecu to transistor) and then it needs to send the signal from the transistor to the coil (transistor to coil) Somewere in those steps there is a problem. You'll need a wiring diagram so you know what wires are suppose to do what.

Good advice. I guess I should point out that the second you put the PTM in the car and turn on the power it's not new anymore. If there was something wrong with your wiring the PTM could go poof just that fast. Coils are a little more robust.

Odds are they're both still good and that it's a bad wire or connector but when it comes to electrical work, diagnosing problems by parts swapping is a risky business.

Best that I can offer for a wiring diagram on '90s is this http://www.ecanfix.com/~mdhamilton/images/1990wiring/ecupinouts.jpg
