I have a shep rebuilt tranny with a wave trak LSD. I might have accidentally dropped the rear engine mount nut into the speed sensor hole, because I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone check to see if here is enough clearance between the differenial housing and the final gear to the point where that nut might move into the path of the gear? I'm hoping that there's no enough space and it will just stay in the back part of the housin if it's in there.

I can't really have any down time till this spring to take it all apart due to weather, etc.

Thank you in advance!

I wouldn't leave any bolts in there.

The speed sensor hole has a flat bottom, so if you're lucky the nut will just stick there and you can pick it out with a magnet reacher tool. If the nut bounced inside the trans it can get lost in the space around the front diff. That tool is also useful so you can fish around between the body and the subframe and see if it got lost in there. GL

I'm 50% that it's in there 50% not. I took the tranny out because I had to replace a broken clutch fork. I tried to reach in with my fingers when I couldn't find it. Couldn't feel much. Once i had the tranny out, I couldn't see anything. I tried a magnet on a stick but it stuck to everything. It seemed to spin ok so I got a new nut when I put it back in.

Any foreign object in the transmission can destroy every single gear in the case and crack the case also. Ask me how I know. Either find the nut or make sure it isn't in there. There is no other way. Only other option is take your chances but if there is anything in there it won't be a matter of if, it's when it takes the tranny out. Doubt you'd even make it to work.

May still be in there, but my speedo is broken since last I posted. When I took it for a test drive after putting the tranny back in, I felt the car shift a little to the left and make a zipping noise after I had some wheel spin from the wet road. Was testing for any boost leaks, etc. Wasn't till I started it up again that the speedo stopped working.

Pulled the sensor this last weekend and some of the gear is grinded down a little on the sensor. Not sure if is't because the possible nut or not. Looks like I just need a new gear for the end. Anyone know if you can buy that part seperate?

I have a bout 80+ miles on the car now since putting the tranny back in. Haven't gone over 55mph for obvious reasons. Hoping to have the car last till this spring. I'll then fix it else part the car out and get a new car.
