I have 2 boxes for the front of a 1G AWD item number 81250. Just like another ingalls kit I had for another car, the nuts wont screw on by hand all the way, they get stuck right before the bolt comes through the nut.

If you look at the nut the bolt isnt perfectly round on the top, it looks smooshed, but really isnt. Its like its shaped that way, all 4 nuts are the same. It makes me think they will strip the bolt when tightening it. Anyone else come across some crap like this?

I know its a locknut, but it feels really tight.

If it's truly lock nut, that is normal. They are supposed to be deformed. As you tighten them, they form a slight interference fit to the bolt threads.

I've never been able to hand tighten even smaller lock nuts, like the exhaust manifold nuts for example. You should feel some resistance with a wrench, but not a "lot". You should be able to tell if it's cross threaded vs. the normal resistance. If in doubt, try threading an extra one onto a spare bolt of the same size.

BTW - don't re-use lock nuts: once they have been threaded on more than about half of the thread depth, they shouldn't be re-used. Also, don't tighten them and then loosen them.
