Anyone else's clutch pedal make a pop noise when you start to push it?

I think it has something to do with that spring that returns the clutch pedal.. mabey its unseated or something.. mine does it but not all the time.. its a sound thats in the cabin, not a engine/trany noise..

Wow talk about quick to jump to CW... a clutch PEDAL pop is not exactly rare on dsm's and many other cars (if it's a small pop). It's just in the mechanics of the petal, and almost 100% of the time does not signify anything you need to worry about.

92 TSI AWD Talon here. And oh yes, mine has been popping for the 12k miles I've owned it. It bothered me at first but after a while it didn't bother me.

Reviving.

I've had this problem almost as long as I had my car. I've replaced the master and slave cylinder, new shift fork and ball, greased the clutch arm, replaced the small parts and bushings in the pedal assembly and have a stainless steel clutch line. Still pops. Sometimes after a hard launch or extended drviing, it will go away, but it sometimes makes it hard to modulate the clutch from a standing start. I also think it is shortening the life expectancy of my clutches as this, my second 2100 in 40,000 miles I think is starting to let go.

Any new ideas on how to solve this?

My clutch makes that noise, but it sounds like its only from under the dash. I think something just needs some grease.

Anyone able to fix the IN CAB "clicking" noise? Mine clicks and annoys me to all hell :p

I've had the same problem numerous times but I think I have figured out what is causing mine to pop. I just pulled my tranny because it broke(unrealated) and I noticed 1. that after my clutch job it stopped for a while then came back. 2. it doesn't do it all the time seems random but constistant when it starts.

One thing no one ever talkes about is the sleave that goes onto the tranny bellhousing where the input shaft comes out. This sleave is what the throwout bearing rides on as the clutch fork moves it. I noticed as i was cleaning everything that there is a nice set of grooves on the sleeve and a nasty little indention on the same side the clutch for is on. I orderd a new sleeve along with all the other parts because it wasn't that expensive and when i got it i noticed that the sleave was much smoother and a few thousands thicker compared to the old sleave.

My guess is that over time the sleave becomes unlubricated and starts to where grooves into it. Also the side the clutch fork is on it will but a side load on the throwout bearing and if there is a little notch or bump on the sleave is will stick their untill the pressure pops it out of the small groove or notch.

I haven't gotten the tranny back in yet, waiting on a bearing thats on backorder untill may 19th so i should have it all back in next weekend. I'll get back with an update after its up and running again.

velvo

the clicking we are talking about is RIGHT at the pedal, inside the car. I dont know much about the clutch/tranny stuff but I dont see how the two could be related.

I have the popping noise as well. As soon as i press the clutch to its disengagement point i hear it. Mine sounds like its coming from somewhere under the hood in the tranny area.

I have no clue why

I feel my pops more then I hear them, but I thought it was just coming from under the dash, but have been told by a tech that another pop was coming from under the hood too. I replaced everything I thought could solve the problem with no luck.

Did anyone ever figure out what exactly is causing this? I have the 98 GS, and the pop is a sound under the dash. The sound will come and go, and is really annoying. This was one of two tthreads on this problem. Any ideas?
