Anybody Help????

I am cleaning my air filter and have my intake off the car. I have rust spots and was trying to clean them up. I decided I want to paint the intake. Problem is, I have no idea how to get the Chrome/Chrome plating (whatever the stuff is) off the intake to paint it. Anybody have any ideas or know how?

I have tried SOS pads but they do not work. I wanted to do the same to my Shift Knob if I get a good finish. Somebody please help. I want to try and do it myself to save money for more important things like, mods.

Just sand your intake pipe down real good with a medium grit sand paper, wash it off, and spray it (preferably with high heat paint).

I would say do NOT paint your shift knob. It will wear off pretty quick with your hand rubbing all over it.

Ya it isn't rocket science, its more than likely going to get dirty and scratched again. If you want the paint to hold, get it powder coated.

I really want to get it powder coated. I just do not have the cash to spend at this moment. I was thinking sand paper since a few places told me that they would have to sand blast it. So, I went and picked up some 40 or 80 cannot remember and 180. So, currently working on it now. WalMart had this stuff called Aircraft Definisher or something in the Automotive Section. It said it would remove all finishes but, I passed for now. Will let you guys know how it turns out.

The paint will last just fine as long as your prep it correctly. Sand it to a smooth surface and wash it before you spray. Since its got the chrome plating on it it wouldn't hurt to use a good primer for your first coat. I have painted a ton of stuff under my hood and it held up just fine for years. Just don't spray paint your exhaust manifold or turbo, that's the only thing I would have ceramic coated.

Well, the painting is about finished. I have to do some sanding of the runs. Other than that, it looks to be pretty good. I went with Gloss Black. Kinda, I want to see how it looks under the hood. Oh, this is for my Mustang GT not the Eclipse. I am working on getting all the bugs out before I start making the Eclipse look good. My Mustang is Mineral Gray with a Black Convertible Top. I think I want to do all my Engine in either Gloss or Flat Black. I am up for some input on the two. Right now the couplers are blue, I need to source some black ones.

I am trying to decide whether I want to change the color of the Eclipse when I get the bugs out and work on looks. It is currently Green with Gray Interior. I was thinking of maybe going to Gunmetal Gray with Black Interior, Blaze Orange with Black Interior, or keep what I have.

I am all ears for your input on both cars. I will post some pics of the engine bay once I finish tomorrrow if you guys want also. Let me know.
