once you get all the kinks worked out of the fidanza short shifter it becomes a decent one. it requires some modification to make it work but it my eyes it definetly was well worth it...

Josh has been making those for years...even before he had the shop open. Probably one of the best on the market. I've driven several cars with his shifter in it and it's a vast improvement over stock. And yes, he makes them in two heights...stock or shorter.

A metal bushing set and a smaller shifter knob improves the feel a lot; it's very cheap to do as well.

I'm very happy with my shifter setup. It's a Symborski kit on a rebuilt shifter assembly with all new plastic bushings, skateboard washers in the shift cable ends, and a short shift knob from a Mazda 626 I found in the junkyard. I've never missed a shift and gear throws are very precise and quick. The only thing left for me to do is a brand new set of shift cables and I'll be set for the next several years.

I've driven short-shifter 240SXs and I don't like them at all. The throw is too short, I'm never sure where the next gear is and the effort is very high. I don't think there is any real speed advantage- I can shift my car as fast as I can slam my left foot to the floor. Installing a short shifter is a personal decision you have to make.
