ok so Nito 15 came to my house and the loud noise is from the turbo it has in and out shaft play.So i was thinking of getting a 20g but an ebay one. I know that its about 50/50 some people think they are shit some say they are pretty good. Well im not going to race this car just to use as a fun DD. My next point theres a vendor selling 20g i think he is from cali and it says if not 100% satisfied money back. So i was thinking buy it and just beat the shit out of it and see if it lasts i mean i have nothing to lose. What do you guys think?
 
I say "Do it right the first time". What exactly are your intended goals?

hey why not a 50 trim? ive seen some awesome deals on bolt on 50 trims

i mean im not going to be boosting like crazy i want something strong i have no intentions of racing. I also do not want to pay more than 600 bucks i would say that would be the limit.
 
theyre great on pump gas and are more likely to be found for under 600
 
Do you have a video of the ticking noise?
no I'll take one tommorow but it's not a ticking sound when I drive aroud around 3500k right before I boost a loud whoosh sound starts and gets louder and it stops when I shift and this happened in every gear. So nito 15 suggested it was the turbo because the noise starts when I'm going to boost. We then took of the intake and we checked for shaft play and it had plenty includg in and out.

The question is whether or not you have maximized the capabilities of a 16G yet. 400bhp with FWD isn't going to be much fun after a while, not to mention, other components will need to be upgraded to handle it appropriately.

IMO, if I were you, I would do more supportive mods for it. In the end, you're still laying the groundwork for future potential upgrades.
 
a 50 trim is definately a better turbo than a 20g on pump gas. = ) and as far as bolting it on i think the 50 trim requires some tweaking of the water pipe and the relocation of waterline that goes into the front of the block (most 50 trims do).

Anyway, George's 16g (which ended up being an ebay 16g unfortunately with a massive amount of in and out play) has a Jpipe that routes the intercooler piping towards the driver's side the front mount intercooler. As far as the description of the symptoms, the turbo sounded like supercharger. Upon inspection of the turbo also found that the inducer/compressor wheel had been chipped. I dont know if it was before or after the head rebuild. I was telling George that lets hope it was before the rebuild because you don't want a piece of compressor wheel flowing into the combustion chamber. I have a compression tester to check compression on the cylinders. One other thing, I am not sure if he can use the same lines that are on there since the fittings from the chinabay turbo that came with his car might be different (can someone verify this?). Also the car had a check engine that said cylinder 4 misfire, i forgot the code number but it is another reason why I wanted to check the compression at least on that cylinder. We switched out the plug wires to test out if the wire was the problem of the misfire but that wasn't the case. = P As far as the goals, 400 hp is quite a big goal, that would definately require a 50 trim and some race fuel to be on the safe side to say the least, dsm link would be essential for tuning. Getting that kinda hp to the ground on a fwd from a stop is fun X )
 
Well yea we need to do a compression test. And I'm planning on getting dsm link and 95 socket ecu with in a month or so. But I'm looking for a decent price for a 50. Do all 50 trim come as external wastegate? Well I can't get 400hp atleast something close I was looking also at a td05 18g what do you think about these. I know they are a lil bit better than a 16g and spool faster but would it be a good upgrade or should I get something better so I don't have to upgrade again in the future
 
Are you kidding me? 400hp + fwd + from a stop does NOT equate to fun. You'll be pissing through your street tires and won't be moving anywhere fast without an LSD. Additionally, look into upgrading your clutch to handle that much power.

Not that I really support this silly idea, but race fuel is also NOT required to reach that goal. It's all in your TUNE and supporting modifications. Any true tuner will agree with that statement. Mmm, but yeah.. I carry 100 octane in my backseat :shhh:

well after reading alot of threads i just decided to go with the EvoIII Big 16G since the one i had was an ebay Big 16G. Oh yea the Evo 16g was only $524 shipped;) from forced performance not bad should be here on Friday:)
