another timing question

if timing is too retarded will the engine run hot? My mani and exhaust housing glow red when I open the hood after driving. You can only see them glowing at night and not during the day. Is this normal? and can someone tell me which mark is the 5 degree one?

A glowing mani/turbo is normal after driving. As for your timing, the 5* mark is between the 10* and the big T, but it doesn't make that much of a difference to you as the base timing cannot be adjusted on your car.
