Another problem!!! Starter acting funny...

Ok now I have another problem with my car. I was trying to turn my car over for first time with my new engine and when it was about to turn over the starter started to go real fast. It was making a whinning noise so I turned the car off and the starter was still making that noise. So I had to disconnect the battery for it to stop. I just got the starter today and I am using a red top optima battery as well.

1. After I waited 15 min I tried to connect everything back up and it did the same thing but
the battery post started to melt when I hook the positive side of the battery back up.

Sounds like something is grounding out.Check for bare wiring.

I agree with the grounding out, was the engine turning over when you tried to start it? I only ask ### of the whining and speed of the spin. If it the starter was spinning with out the engine turning over you may also have to shim the starter because it is not catching the flywheel, or the solenoid may be bad and not popping the gear out.


I know thats more than asked but it is just in case.

I am going to check the wires around that area and yes the engine was turning over. It was just about to cut on before the starter wanted to go into hyperdrive.

I agree, it sounds as if you have something grounding out. I am not sure about these starters but my old one on my mustang was bad about grounding out. The battery wire that connects to the starter would turn and touch the starter housing which would cause bad problems.

Check and make sure that the wires on the starter sylinoid are not touching together. If they are it will cause a continious current to the starter and then the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery.
