Ok, so I did a boost leak test, and found a couple minor leaks, fixed all but 2, my throttle body elbow, and the j-pipe. I have a gasket between both, and the j-pipe has a new gasket but still leaks. My question is, can I put rtv on the j-pipe where it connects to the turbo, or does it get too hot?

Ive put a very little on before with no issues... Just dont go crazy with it so that it has the Peanut Butter Jelly effect and leaks all inside. A small amount with the gasket should be more than enough to stop that leak.

I think there is a higher temp one, check your local auto parts store.

Ok, the one I have only goes up to 500F, and I have the bolts as tight as they can go on the j pipe, so ill see if I can find a higher temp one, if not, put a little as stated. Thanks for the advice.

Yes go to your auto parts store and tell them you need some high temp silicone gasket maker or high temp RTV. I think the Red stuff is rated for the highest temp but quote me on it. A very thin layer or a small bead At most 5mm should be plenty for the j-pipe. Just remember that the small the item the less RTV it needs. Too much RTV can be very very bad.

You should also thoroughly clean any surface of oil and contaminates if you use RTV.

From everything I read the grey is what is used on imports from the factory. Its supposed to be just like Honda-Bond. Thats something else you can use too but it ain't cheap. When I pulled the oil pan off the last block it was on with either Honda-Bond or the grey rtv. I almost wasn't able to get it off. It bent the pan all the way around and I have to fix the pan.

Also the copper rtv is good upto 700* where the red is 650* and they grey is 500*.

Just realized the grey is called ultra rigid high torque.

I've never actual seen the copper or gold RTV. I have a tube of red and grey over on the work bench though.

Gray is 500 and Red is 650. I don't like to use that stuff on oil pants though. Cork Gasket w/ copperseal spray works wonders.

I have used the copper many times with no ill effects. I don't think it is "sensor safe" though. Anytime I have used a gasket I have always had it leak.

Also the grey is " Guaranteed not to leak."

Cork Gasket w/ copperseal spray works wonders.

Agreed. the cork or even paper gasket with copper spray is the best the way to go. i have used them all though and never had any problems with leaks on the j pipe, or with the temp on ANY of the rtv. RTV silicone itself is made with.... silicone and is already heat resistant. ever put a cutting torch on pure silicone? it doesn't burn, kinda weird. i use special green rubber cement on my coupplers to piping and on the intercooler. works awsome to ELIMINATE LEAKS.

It's likely the flange on the j-pipe is warped, thus the leak. Check it for flatness with a straight edge. If it is warped grab a piece of glass and some sandpaper and sand it until it is flat. It should seal with just the gasket then. When I installed my turbo last time I noticed that the j-pipe flange was warped from the heat of welding and when I tightened it down to the turbo it didn't seal worth a damn. I sanded it flat and now it seals.
