I guess for my first post I'll introduce my project to anyone reading this. My name is Chris, college student in upstate new york. I was getting really annoyed by driving an automatic for 2 years after my first car was a manual CRX; so, I saw my 2G Eclipse on craiglist one night and bought it the next morning with the money I had and some borrowed from a friend.
Slowly started to notice how it had suffered from some abuse between its' first 2 owners. First, last year a stage 2 clutch kit was installed, but the flywheel is original and needs to be replaced, and the transmission was just beaten because of this (locked out of first gear casually shifting a couple weeks after buying the car). Never did a carfax for it, but pretty sure this car has been in either an accident, or a bunch of accidently-hit a-shopping-cart scenarios. The bumpers and fenders all seem to have been taken off and put on several times, bending the mounts and occasionally losing a bolt. Moving on, there's a beautiful amount of rust underneath the car and inside the engine compartment! I could keep going for hours but I'll stop and just worry about more once I get to making some actual progress.
Ok so now for the best part of the story, driving on the highway when the car has a seizure and the engine compartment bursts into flames! Had the car towed home, it started once it got home, I replaced the wires that were burned, the car still started...but then the next morning it wouldn't start. Starter system seems fine, no spark though. PCM seems to have no power, so once it gets a little warmer (or I get the balls to go outside for a few hours) I'll be going over that. I actually found this website looking for the shop manuals for this car, btw thanks to whoever posted that!
Basically just working on some little things inside for now while it gets nicer, actually gonna go grab the drivers side door now and work on that (outside handle doesn't work, window isn't aligned right & mirror adjustment broken...)
Oh and the picture is from when I attempted to put on lambo hinges (at least learned how to do it now...). Way too impulsive sometimes (all the time), didn't even notice the drivers hinge was missing the lower shock bearing because they were $200 on craigslist.
